Looking for any solid, high damage builds which do not require a particular item.

Pretty much the title. Lost my saves and for some reason steam cloud was off for Grim Dawn. I don’t feel bad however, with the new expansion coming out this year it gives me a good chance to start fresh and prepare. It does mean I lost all of my items however and I don’t wish to cheat them back.

Had a look through the build compendium but I’m kinda of wanting a high damage-ish one that doesn’t rely on a particular item to work. I don’t mean it has to be god tier or anything, as that will of course require gear. I just don’t really enjoy the sort of typical “slow and tanky” builds a lot of people start off with or “summon loads of pets and then afk” kind of builds either.

>playing an ARPG
>expecting there to be ANY class which doesn’t have SOME degree of gear dependency
>ESPECIALLY classes that aren’t pet focused or tank focused, but DPS focused

You really don’t leave yourself much room with your criteria.

There are some mostly craftable builds, though, so maybe one of them would work for you. Try jajaja’s sab.

I know gear will be required at some point with all builds, but there are some which pretty much require particular items to work. A basic example would be needing a medal to dual wield pistols. Some I’ve looked at use a skill granted by an item to make their build work. Some just have complete gear dependency in terms of stats.

It’s these builds I’m looking to avoid while I have nothing. Looking for builds which can still dish out a bunch of damage while I re-play through the game without needing me to have a bunch of stuff already prepared for it.

Like I said, I’m not looking for god tier dps cos that will need gear. I just would like to get back through the game where I was before at a decent pace. I’ve always been more of a fan of active, fast builds. Not the slower types I mentioned previously.

You could give my build a try at: http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49136

Meets most of your requirements, there are some videos too if you want to see how it performs and whether you’ll like the playstyle or not.

Cmon Tycho, there’s plenty of builds that will work without being dependent on a single item. He’s talking about builds built around an item that won’t work at all with that item, not one that will work, just not as good as with a particular weapon or armor set or something.

Warder (Shaman/Soldier) is probly your best bet, as this gives you a tanky spec mixed with a dps class that has some cool actives.

I would say a 2H Warder build is what you’re looking for. With the Kraken and Tempest devotion trees maxed out you’ll have a ton of DPS. You can go for either the Savagery or Primal Strike lines and pick up Wendigo Totem for healing and grab a few survival skills from the Soldier skill tree like Menhir’s Will, Decorated Soldier and so forth. It’s flexible, it’s tanky and it clears screens like a boss. And you can run with whatever gear you manage to pick up and still be a demi-god. Of course gear will make it so much better but for leveling and farming purposes you can get by fine without it.

If you are not playing HC I can recommend a Sorcerer.

I recently started over from scratch as well, after I got tired of playing HC. Since I never played SC I basically had nothing, no items, mats, blueprints, faction rep … you name it.

Now I’m almost through with Elite and didn’t have problems so far, not sure about Ultimate. I went with a spammable BWC build, complemented by Thermite Mines, Canister Bomb and OFF. Great farming potential and quick clear speed, at least considering that this is basically my first character in SC.

If all fails and Ultimate turns out to be impossible I might still farm Crucible or simply late Elite dungeons. But for now it seems pretty solid

My Itemfarmer is a Saboteur. No itemreq (You can buy ur mainwep, the firestarter, from the Black Legion, and reroll via rehosting to get ‘perfect’ ones), ez to lvl (with 1.0.07 he is a lot stronger in terms of AoE). I have no deads (playing SC) with him, so he is HC viable (carefull, he is a bit squishy early on)

Hmm, a particular guide should be this: http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34294

play him as a 2h Ranged (Devotions are the same as dual wield) till lvl 30-40, then switch to dual wield. (You can do it earlier, or start as dual wield, since patch 1.0.0.7, Fire Strike’s mod ‘Explosive Strike’ deals AoE damage without a range wep. But i think it’s very handy to have be ranged early in the game)

Thank you for the suggestion. I’ve actually never tried Warder properly before. This is probably a good of an opportunity as any to give it a go!

This is also the kind of thing I’m looking for, thanks. Being able to get good weapons for a build from the rep vendors will help a lot re-farming all of my lost items.
