Mage Hunter (Aether/Fire) Help

So I started to build my Mage Hunter around the Legendary Deathscorcher (Aether Damage) 2H weapon and several Aether/Fire armor pieces, but the problem I’m running in Elite Level 83 is the giant Hulk-like monsters in Malmouth with titles like Titan, Colossal, etc. that sometimes runs in packs of 5-10 that instant kill me after a few hits.

Do they have any weaknesses or am I building my Mage Hunter all wrong with the gear/damage type/skills/attributes/devotions? I can pretty much tank/kite other monsters perfectly fine.

Any advice would be appreciated. If most monsters will be like them in Ultimate then I’ll probably have to start a new character.

Your health is too low. I think you really need to put more points into the mastery bar, maybe even into both mastery bars. Definitely get Inquisitor up to 50 and get points in Aura of conviction for both a damage boost, and the physical resistance. But putting points in the mastery bar is the best way to up your hp pool. You should have over 10k hp, especially in Malmouth.

There are a few skills you can devest in: Mirror, arcane will, nullification don’t need to be that high, imo.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll make those changes to my Mage Hunter.

I didn’t even know the mastery bar affected health. This is my first time playing Grim Dawn so I’m still learning new things about it as I play the game.

If you look very closely, your points in inquisitor can be rearranged :

  • do not exceed max in :
    -deadly aim
-top left skill that gives as
    -the 2nd and third WPS
They are WASTED points when over max. I realized it as well after somebody told me.

How do you use the fire rune skill ?
It is not very efficient, and the cold one reduced DA of mobs that gives you awesome crits.

You have put too much points in mirror to reduce CD. It is not worth it.
I think the skill on the bottom left corner of arcanist is also too maxed :stuck_out_tongue:

And… you really have 37% poison and pierce resistance ?
It is waaay too low !

They aren’t completely a waste. Although 10/10 Ranged Expertise is where the attack speed stops, so that’s a fine stopping point. Storm Spread stops giving more attacks at 7/10 (unless there is one past 15/10, still not worth that investment most likely). Chilling Rounds doesn’t scale well, so 6/10 is a good stopping point.

That leaves Bursting Round, which does scale nice past 10/10. Your weapon damage percent goes up 4-5% per point spent. That’s pretty good, if you ask me.

And yeah, Aether resistant mobs are going to suck if you don’t find a way to drop their resists a ton. There are a few mobs which are extremely resistant to Aether.

Thanks for the help guys. I’ll make those changes and put the points in something useful like the mastery or to another skill.

I was aiming for aether/fire damage with my character and assumed the fire rune would be better than cold. I’ll test the cold rune and see how it goes.

I have changed my gear on my character so many times that the resistance and skills are out of place. Once I am content with the gear in Ultimate then I’ll add augments/components to balance out the resistance.
