This evening I remembered I had two Cortosian Invokers on a one year old PRM build, and I decided to put them on a melee character just out of curiosity. I used them on a vitality/chaos witch-hunter for the test, don’t mind all the red effects going on!
It turns out it is very satisfying to play. The low proc chance is compensated by the absence of cooldown, replicating missiles are all over the screen! Here is a short video showing the build in action. Using two cortosian invokers on an elemental spellbreaker would definitely work, I figured I would share that with you.
Great, now I have to go rummaging trough my mules to see if i have them. Can you test if they work with Phantasmal blades and some proc-happy devotion skill like Eye of the guardian?
Edit: nvm, 50 base damage is not very abusable, didn’t notice that it’s a lvl 35 item. There is an Empowered version of it with 85 base damage (still not awesome tho), lemme see if someone in the trading forum has some.
No cooldown but a small energy cost, so you will need to drink a potion every so often.
It certainly works with Phantasmal Blades, plus each blade has a chance to start the proc so you should trigger a real PRM festival. I guess it could be interesting with a Blood Orb of Ch’thon as well, to build around chaos PRM + vitality/chaos PB.
Honestly I have no idea about the actual damage output. The character I used is pretty strong so we can’t really say if the missiles were doing much, but I’ll start a spellbreaker soon to test these nice scepters in real conditions.
Ok, tried it with dual Empowered Cortosians. PRMs fly around like crazy, but they drain my mana insanely fast. This is not so much of a problem as the fact that the damage is quite low. It’s around 850 per hit with +650% on average to elemental damage types. I could get it to 1000-1200 with a gear/devotion change, which would end up being around 3000-3500 dps boost. This is not worth entering the build around, and both weapon slots are not something you can waste lightly…It’s a shame, looked promising but the numbers are just not there.
I started a new spellbreaker since the other day and I just reached level 35.
The energy drain is compensated by the leech from a 12/12 IEE. I use ABB and Elemental Storm so every second there is a ton of mobs hit. In addition, Veil of Shadow affects all mobs in a 6m radius so that’s even more proc attempts. Also remember: missiles themselves can proc more missiles!
It is funny because with the same items you and I don’t have the same philosophy. I want to make a build around these Cortosian Invokers because it seems really fun and I know it will work, it’s fine if the numbers are a bit lower than usual.
Anyway, I’ll probably post again in a few weeks when I reach Ultimate (or level 75) with this build.
I linked you the character. Try it out to see how it works in ultimate before investing in levelling your own char. Or don’t, level a Spellbreaker if you don’t have one because it’s an incredibly fun class to play!!
By doesn’t work, I mean I would be better off just using Tome + Clairvoyant wand.
I will fiddle around with it over the weekend, Invoker’s army sounds like it could fit this build for even more procs. The only problem will be tanking up.
Nice build. Did you craft these Incanter’s weapons or did you farm forever? An Incanter’s dagger of Fury would be so good… now I’m sad we can craft cold/fire/lightning implements but not elemental ones directly.
