Merging mods

Oh hi guys

This time I am confused how to merge two different mods together as one. Yes, I have read Somerled’s instructions but my IQ is somewhat size of my show size so I didnt managed to merge anything.

Lets say that I wish to merge Grimmest with Coronus. I know that Coronus already is merged with grimmest, but what if it wasn’t. I tried to merge Grimmest with another existing mod following Somerled’s guide but got nothing. I really don’t know where to even start. I have read all guides and topics I could find when searching forums and got nothing.

I made mod called MyMod via assetmanager and copied grimmest source code stuff there but I cannot find skills_mastertable.dbr. I could import that from Vanilla database but how to import it from another mod which also does not have that skills_mastertable.dbr -file? Do I need to extract some .arz -file to make it appear or where it is?

Hit me up on steam or discord.

I am so close to solving this one. I managed to extract arz -file with archivetool.exe. There I found this missing skilltablet. But when I copy grimmest source stuff to mymod folder and then copy records from extracted files I get grimmest to work. Mob density is high but when I try to choose class it’s all missing tags and so on.

Need some more coffee and smokes to figure this out. Perhaps I should or should not overwrite some stuff when copying record … head scratch

tags are found in source/Text_EN

Copy those to your mod folder/source/Text_EN and right click -> auto-create asset -> Build

Ok, so I found tags and almost got it to work. Classes names were visible atleast at some point but there were those square thingies with them and I could not choose class except Vanilla ones.

Basically I just copy to MyMod -folder database and Resources from Grimmest source then add Source -folder that includes Text_EN tags. Then I copy records from other mod I wish to merge with Grimmest to Database and overwrite all. Does not work at all. Where do I go wrong? Should I overwrite only certain files or copy just certain stuff from records to MyMod -folder?

Edit // Ofc. I build the whole MyMod in assetmanager after copying files. No errors were shown

  1. New mod in AM.

  2. Quit AM and get into windows folders. Copy paste everything from Grimmest where it belongs.

  3. Do the same with your mastery mod, overwrite any Grimmest file with other mod file. There should be no conflicts. If there are, it is likely the other mod includes lots of files that were not really modded. Let us know.

  4. Back in AM. Here there are two option, either you have assets folder from each mod and thus every source (resources not dbrs/database-records) has an asset or you need to use AM to browse to the source file and right click Auto-create asset.

  5. Build mod in AM.

Ok, I got this far. Copying Grimmest stuff to MyMod -folder and adding folders from other mod gives no errors. When I go to assetmanager and build it asks if I want to delete some unassociate files. I press notoall. Then AM removes some files after all and build is done. No other errors.

When I use MyMod on game. Grimmest works but all classes are Vanilla. No classes from other mod I wish to merge with Grimmest.

Hmm, I cannot find that auto-create-asset button from RMB or anywhere in option bar

Edit // no conflicts when I copy/paste files from folder to MyMod folder

It sounds like you do not have assets for the non-grimmest mod.

Grimmest, iirc just has text files and I think I posted the assets folder with it. But as an example, in AM, you have the ability to browser source/assets/or records. you need to be in the source browser, and then find the text file and right click the file name in AM. You should get a menu and the last option in that menu should read auto-create asset. If you already have the asset, then AM should tell you this.

But if you have a mastery mod without the assets, there are likely lots of graphics and other types of source files that need their corresponding assets in order for AM to build the mod properly. Those unassociated files and the subsequent purging of things by AM during a build typically indicates that the build will be borked. You really do not want to see that question…If your second mod to merge with Grimmest is GrimQuest, then you are in for some serious problems. There is some Asylum-magic involved in building that mod.

Now I found the auto-asset button but not much help. The other mod is not GrimQuest. It is this Necromancer/monk mod http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38158

I have extracted that mod with archivetool.exe and copied tag texts in right place and then auto-asset those but didnt help. Still got only Grimmest with Vanilla classes

I really could use help with this. Does anyone have any idea how to get this to work? It couldn’t be that hard. I feel like I am so close to success but then BAM! nothing works after all

Contact me on steam or discord. I’ll do a walk through session with you so we both can be looking at the same thing to identify problems.

Ok, lets do that. Friend invite send thru Steam

edit // timolein is my account name in Steam

I made some progress here. When I download grimmest source stuff and necromancer/monk -mod source 1.10 and combine those using Jiaco’s instructions. I get working MyMod. It has grimmest mob density and classes from 1.10 source, but then problem now is that 1.10 source is missing monk class and that is what I wan’t to play with grimmest

This is just hopeless. I give up and go play CandyCrush
