More livestock

Add chickens for eggs/meat. pigs for meat…sheep…?

While this is a good idea there comes with it the added consideration that each animal type would bring with it. For example, the cows currently in the game would make the ground where they graze more fertile. Makes sense when you think about it. They also provide milk for cheese, etc. Not sure what chickens or pigs would do other than maybe getting feathers for a higher quality arrows? And pigs would provide…something? Perhaps a higher meat harvest at the cost of needing more vegetables as their food source?

While every animal doesn’t necessarily have to have different benefits or drawbacks it might not be feasible for the devs to introduce a wide variety of livestock.

Pigs would add nothing. Already have more meat than I can eat/smoke.

Chickens could provide eggs, a new meat type, and feathers. Feathers could be used for better arrows, as you mentioned, as well as for bedding. Bedding would be another luxury item. Chickens would require grain for feed.

It would need to be a larger building, like a barn. And it would not be welcome near town.

Yes please , I agree

Or we can add corn in farms , and they eat that , as well with the citizens

Also , add donkeys / horses with stable , to assist in farming /plowing instead assigning large number of farmers per field

Horses and donkeys can’t pick the crops, which is the bulk of what takes time.

If you wondered why there is no corn or potatoes in this game… it’s because it was non existant in the early medieval times as this is something imported from the america’s somehwere throughout the 1700’s.

they will plow , not pick

Yes, you are correct in why it’s not in early European colonial times, but you’re a bit off on dates. Columbus brought corn back in 1493 after his first trip. Potatoes were brought from Peru in the mid-1500s. Granted, they were not as popular until later, especially corn which had to undergo further hybridization before the yields were good enough.

It’s not in any European, American, Asian or other earth place times. It’s a fantasy world.

good suggestion

I like the idea of taking existing resources and as the game develops–as you’re getting Tier 2 and above–you can take something like the Bird’s Nest and make an updated version–I’ve gone with Fowl Hut but it’s essentially a bigger version of a Bird House–giving another resource along with it; feathers like Nytehaven mentioned, which could be a later game crafting resource, such as a requirement for Crossbow bolts, maybe–since it seems add that a crossbow uses arrows.

fowlhut

The game would need to change to allow you to pick up the Nest itself (give an uproot option so you can put the nest into storage).

Just a thought.

Bolts don’t use feathers for fletching.

The game isn’t absolutely accurate to a lot of things–yay, fantasy–and I’m not very familiar with the exact makeup of arrows and bolts, but several sources beyond wikipedia do say bolts could be fletched with feathers. I’ll just post the wikipedia part, it’s easier.

Everything I’ve seen about feathered fletching on crossbow bolts is that they’re extremely unreliable at those forces and would often be torn off the bolt in the process of firing. Maybe there were crossbows or means of fletching that improved on those issues, maybe they weren’t even as bad as they’re made out to be.

I 100% stand behind the additional resource, even if it is used elsewhere, but it would also work for this game to make it into bolts.

That’s true, I think that’s a big thing to remember, though has some european inspired elements, definitely.

I think when looking at livestock potential we can look at their art for the game, like the background of this page itself. There’s clearly cattle and clearly sheep. Sheep, I’d be down for: meat and wool. Wool is another clothing option, at least. Winter clothing and a new building/profession or two. I do have my eye on those birds for potential too

True, but that artwork has been around since 2016-17 and it’s only impressions anyway. Could be Crate decided to keep things more simple for early access and we’ll see other animals further down the line.
