So, i’ve played on normal mode, reaching a population of 500 all very happy settlers, 100 year lenght game, and i must say it was very good, it kept me glued to the screen, figuring how to organize my city at it’s best. I’m not an expert of city creator games, last i played was Imperium Civilization, so a lot of years ago. I really appreciated the game system, something like it forces you to keep looking around and make you think different kind of possibilities to carry on in the game. I loved the music, hope there will be amazing soundtracks like theese in the future.
So, about gameplay this was the 3rd run, first and second were a big mess because of no tutorials and it was hard to figure out how to progress, also i didn’t know the different utility of buildings in the game. Another thing i had a problem with was not being able to put the settlers on different houses, something like nearer to their work place. So bad efficiency looking my settlers running so far from their houses to do their duties.
Then it was almost impossible to upgrade some houses, because some of them with fisherman of guards simply don’t return home, ever. I built houses at the center of the city where there are tons of resources, and 3 of them were stuck at tier 1. So i would really appreciate to have an option for the people in the house to force an upgrade.
About buildings, the possibility to move them is very good. I saw many other writers in the forum wanting to move the center of the city (Primary building), i had no need to do that, also i think is good to leave it there you have to find a good position to put it. I would love Market to have more stuff. Just not care so much about quantity, but that could have all the stuff you produced in the city, so much more diversity has a better resources spread in it’s area. I would love to move Graveyeard, but i know it’s also good to keep it where you built it.
The commercial station is very good, and possibly the only way to go on during long games. I see many has problems with that, like merchants not buying what they want to sell. You see, i guess is much more you must change your playstile about what merchants need. Take note of what they wish. They need clothes? Good, put line into 3 camps, so you have yearly a good income of it for make clothes. be the king of the clothes like any other settler did, and sell em! They want wood backpack? Find lake where there are a lot of Junks, place 2/3 buildings to make those wood backpacks and there you go! Same thing with many other things, look for what you can greatly gain from your nearbies and don’t be scared to hill your wherehouse with it!
School could have multiple levels of education, and put a level of how good a person is to do a specific job.
The hunter house drops points when it’s upgraded to second level, traps steal more of the time of the hunters, making me istantly regret the decision to upgrade em.
The stable looks kinda buggy actually, sometimes the number of animals goes up the limit i set and farmers don’t kill the surplus cows. sometimes they don’t milk em, so i must relocated the stable every time it happened.
The Fertilizer at the moment is very ineffective, i would love more workers per structure, also be able to set a working perimeter for the building.
Labor camp as it is now is totally useless, i used it for the first and second run and no more. Problem is you have a low quantity of workers there, as there are no resources into the circle they stop working and i spent more time moving the structure then making it work. Using laborers for gather stone/wood is simply better and faster.
About defenses people complain a lot about the soldier cost, main thing to do is upgrading houses and don’t rush for the garrison. Towers for a good amount of year are great, they are not so expensive as professional soldiers and can keep riders out very well. I actually don’t know if is an issue or a bug, but when you untrain a soldier from garrisons, lose all his equipment. Gather a loot from dead enemies would be nice, makes a sense to defeat large armies instead of just pay em to leave.
I would love to see bridges sooner or later. During my run there is that massive lake that has a lenght like the entire map (Medium size). It’s great for fishing, but all the plans i had to gather big amount of resources the other side went to smoke, because laborers had to cirle it entirely that was a pain and a loss of time so big it wasn’t possible to have any gain from it.
Hope developers will give an eye to my review and keep up the brilliant and good work!
