Need help for my DK, first character.

Hey guys,

My wife and I began playing GD a little while ago, and we’re having quite a blast. I’m playing a deathknight, following this thread : (just realized i can’t post links without 3 messages posted… They will be on asap)

Everything was going pretty smooth, now i’m on elite, lvl 70 at lone watch and things are getting harder, I die quite often, and my dps seems a bit meh compared to the earlier levels. I guess my gear isn’t optimal, and I started as a forcewave soldier and -following the thread above- I respeced to cadence, and I guess I maybe was wrong with my devotion choices. I don’t know if I should go farm some xp/gear (and where) or if I should keep suffering a bit untill I get to ultimate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, please forgive my english, if I wasn’t clear I would be glad to reexplain or detail.

Here’s my build so far : (just realized i can’t post links without 3 messages posted… They will be on asap)

Thanks !!

there’s a dedicated thread for this 3 post rule. And every veteran player will jump at your link to try and give useful advice.

Ok here are the links …
The thread I’ve been following :

hopefully, from what I saw while wandering the forum, the community seems very friendly and helpful.

Your stats and equipment are more less good for your level but for the Shield (which I presume you entered manually? You can upload your character on grimtools). 70-75 is a bit harder because the threshold for new good pieces is 75.

Damage:
The main problem I see is that you only have one damaging ability, Cadence. If you kill’em, they can’t hurt you :stuck_out_tongue: I’d lose some points in War Cry for a damaging ability while leveling, Bone Harvest for instance. A few points in Shield abilities wouldn’t hurt also.

Defense:
The main problem is: max your resistances.

I love playing my DK (L100). I went heavy into attack damage converted to health, vitality and aether damage. Used default weapon procs and abilities. No cadence or forcewave.

For leveling, my primary weapon is a Soul Splitter. You can start finding them around L30. A blue L30 scythe.

Unfortunately I do not have grimtools link to my build (how do I do that?).

This is the item database. Click on “Build Calculator” and upload your character (first icon on the top left). Then, click on the second icon to get the link. Et voilà!

@Belzzzz : Indeed, I just found this shield a few minutes ago, but it seemed better than my old one. Thx for the advice about warcry/bone harvest, I may try that.

@Kargoth : I would love to see your build. You can do so by going to this link :
https://www.grimtools.com/calc/
click the little arrow going up on the left side of the window, you’ll get a popup explaining where to find your save. Once uploaded, click the “share” icon on the left side of the screen.

Thanks for your help guys!

damn, Belzzzz explains way faster than me.

Ask in the guide thread for help. And read all the posts, I am pretty sure more than you have encountered the same problems.

Ok, figured out how to link my build. Early game, get the soul splitter. Pretty common drop, then try and upgrade to leviathan, then Myth Leviathan. I have the recipes for both if you need them made.

I can face tank most Nemesis without moving. Not the highest damaging build, but has many hard hitting area of effect abilities, procs, lots of explosions and is alot of fun to play.

The main survivability stat is the Life Steal. Mine is 20% but with all of the area of effect procs and reactive procs, life is continuously coming in.

Get higher DA & OA, attack speed and cadence, and get arcane bomb. You need to fix resistances.

If you have devo skill bound to a temporary proc, like you have with tip of scales and menhir will. Tip of scales will only proc when menhir will is active.

You do not have armor augment in belt.

A problem with the krieg set is that it does not offer that many resistances, so you often need good green pants to cover them until you can craft high-tier components.

Your character is lvl 71 so you can use augments /powders for lvl70 that faction venders sell - use them! They will boost your resistances. Particularily your Vitality and Aether resistances are way too low. If your reputaton is not enough for that make sure you bought and applied the Warrants from the factions (where you can buy them) so all friendly factions have a plus sign to the right of their names in the faction window. You must have all your resistances at least 75%+ ! It is the priority not your damage. You can buy Aether Soul component Blueprint from the Devil’s Crossing faction vendor. It is good for %aether resistances buff.

As you are using a shiled take Shieldmaiden constellation. It is very good. Also take Toad (at least up to its 3% life steal node). Ghoul (for its Ghoulish Hunger node) is awesome for survival. Tortoise is good too.

The problem with this kind of defence mechanism is when you face a single strong enemy. You become squishy af. Follow malawiglenn’s advice: Cadence, attack speed etc. and max your resistances.

Thanks for all your advices guys, my char is back on tracks. I updated some stuff, fixed all the components/augments I could get, changed a couple things in my build, everything is going pretty smooth now.

@Kargoth I would definitely appreciate the weapon as I don’t have those recipes, would be great if we can get in touch ingame, but I don’t have the components needed so I may need a bit of time. Thanks for the offer!

I have 20 or so Mythical Leviathan on my mules. No idea why I saved them :stuck_out_tongue:

Just as a question, why are you using a vitality devotion path for Krieg DK? I mean, sure Rattosh gives some aether damage, but the proc is priced in vit builds mainly for the RR. You have almost no devotion choices supporting aether. Also, i don’t get why you chose Leviathan. Even so, i’m not sure how much a DK would benefit from wielding a 2 hander with Cadence. Better to go for DW or S&B.
