New Monster

Awesome new model! Can’t wait to slay it…

Thanks for the kind words!
I had a nice long response that I swore I posted last night, however I also had 3 glasses of wine last night soooooo maybe it was a dream?
Anyways, I’ll post a more thorough response tonight.

awesome work :stuck_out_tongue: keep it up

Not all of the monster models will be created with Zbrush but I imagine most will be since it’s so easy to get a starting diffuse from a normal map.

My pipeline is a little personalized:
I start with whatever…a blob or a basemesh just something.
Throw the mesh into Zbrush
Crank away on it in Zbrush
THEN i make my low-res game model as a cage around the high res.
UV the low poly
Bake my normal maps, light maps etc
then crank on the diffuse texture until it’s finished.
Hit up the animator to take my mesh and rig it
then export it into the engine

For our monster armor we’ll use a combo of single and separate meshes. We’ll still have armor that drops off specific monsters but not all of them.

Hope that helps!
Thanks!

p.s. Funny you should mention Ben Mathis I actually know the guy and have kicked it with him a couple times. His tutorials, while now a little dated, are definitely solid methods to get good results. Hell, i still use his PS hair brushes from his hair tutorial:)

Thanks Subshape! That’s just what I wanted to know.

I’ve just remembered that Zbrush won’t import a model with triangles (must be all quads) so I understand why you have to make the low poly game model after you’ve made the high poly version.

Anyway, I’m currently trawling the internet looking for some good tutorials on this process (if you know of any, please feel free to post the links :D).

As for Ben Mathis, I love his work, and I’ve learned so much from his tutorials. If you know him, maybe you can nudge him to write a few more ;).

Actually, zbrush does accept triangulated meshes(this was fixed by the retail version 1.0) My purpose for starting with a generic base model or with just a blob is that I like to have a little more freedom when i’m in the zbrush stage.

Realy like your Zbrush Model, dude! Keep on going!

Glad he is on the team because those were some of the most epic creatures to battle in TQ!

The models are looking great. Hoping to see a ton more of them.
