New player - Feedback

Hey Guys,

first of all, thank you so much for this fantastic game.

I would like to point out some minor tweaks here and there, which could improve (mostly) the new player experience, but also could positively affect the hoarding endgame as well.

Me and my wife started playing in coop and I’ve noted all the frustrating points we/she experienced. We’ve played D3 for 3+ years so let’s say she has also some experience in ARPG games.

I know there is a modding possibility, but we would really like to help to make the base game even better so more and more players can join and more importantly, stay!

If any of the listed ideas was already done in some way or answered as impossible requests, please accept my apologies in advance.

I will just drop the suggestion list and hope that some ideas will be considered as not entirely useless - just my 2 cents

GAMEPLAY:

  • Search function in chest (like Devotion’s new one for 1 keyword at least)
  • Augment + Component gather button should gather all to the LEFT main inventory (to decrease micro management by a lot)
  • Augment + Component gather button in the inventory should sort the gems by slot usability (e.G. Weapon gems, Head armor gems, Chest armor gems etc.)
  • Augment + Component auto-pickup (like Food ration/vital essence)
  • After new item equip, once hovered, the highlighted usable gems for that slot should stay highlighted (for 10-15 seconds at least) to make selection easier and more comfortable
  • Item stats categorization - Feedback from a wife: Too much information for at once, overwhelming - How about:
    - Highlighting the primary damage dealer element with bold as important stat
    - Primary affixes? (stats, elemental dmg, elemental resist etc.),
    - Secondary affixes? (single resistances, offensive ability etc.)
  • Legendary / EPIC drop sound - It does wonders and makes drop moments more memorable
  • Armor comparison - e.G. EPIC shoulders drop and you have one already equipped - Could show damage (maybe also defense) comparison as weapons do +/-
  • Option to turn on/off the floating health bars of teammates and enemies

LOCATIONS

  • Please consider adding a blacksmith and inventor to Coven’s refuge - We love the place but it’s so annoying to travel around the world to teach a new blacksmith plan, or to keep a gem from a previous item that was used
  • Please consider adding an inventor to Homestead - same reason as above
  • Please consider adding a “Shrine-like” plus icon / or anything that highlights - for Rift gates which have faction vendor
  • Please consider adding more side dungeons/caves, it’s so good that finally we have a game, where no chest or side dungeon is useless to explore!

TRADING/LOOT:

I get the concept, that we have full RNG (with duplicate “protection” pro session) and my Ultos set will be only completed on my LVL100 Druid via trading or endless grind.
Challenge accepted, but to make trading easier for new players, please consider making a “grimtools” like tool so players can share their stash content online, without adding them one by one
on a 3rd party page.

Reason: Currently I have like 5+ tabs of lvl94 EPIC and legendary items hoarded (or more) and have to admit, I couldn’t tell you what I have to offer for a trade, because there are just too many and even more are coming.

Please keep up the amazing work DevZ!

Cheers

Yes, many of your suggestions have been made before. Auto pickup will not be happening, but there is a mod for that

http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53629

That may include the health bar thing, I’m not sure since I don’t use that mod.

As for more inventors/blacksmiths I doubt they’d be increased. If the devs wanted them they would probably have been added at the start. Still you never know. They do listen to the community so maybe you’ll get your wish some day.

Extra dungeons/caves that is probably a no no since the devs consider the current content finished. Obviously Forgotten Gods will bring new places to explore.

Since the game is mainly single player I’m not sure the devs would do anything more on the multiplayer side. But again, you never know.

GrimInternals does indeed have a “floating healthbar thingy” feature. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think most of OPs “problems” have already dealt with, he might wanna check out the mod/tool section of the forum. Or not. GDStash is a pretty cool tool for managing your evergrowing item collection. Includes a search function. Hmmmm.
Forgotten Gods will probably “fix” some of the other issues mentioned.

thematically a blacksmith or inventor wont fit the lore of Coven’s as its mainly a witchs’ haven. Homestead is mainly a farming town turned into a military outpost so I guess having an inventor there is a possibility just like iirc there is an inventor in malmouth outpost. Plus we need to evaluate, are the black legions inventors by heart.?

Thanks, gonna check it out.

My intention with this small list was purely to see if there is any chance to have some of these features built in to the main game without the necessity of sometimes problematic mod installation.

Reasoning: Advised to check the game for many, many players even on my working place. Quite all of them gave up pretty early :undecided:, mostly because one of these points in the list that annoyed them.

I really really just would like to help the game grow with the best intention possible and I understand if most of these minor fixes are already done in a MOD, developers will not work on it, because an optional “workaround” is already usable. But no workaround can match a real solution

I get it, and the devs encourage feedback from the player base and yes, they have made changes because of some of that feedback.

But they also have pretty firm views on what should and shouldn’t be in the game. Not including auto pickup is one as is infinite storage, though both have been requested many, many times. This is why they allow and encourage modding of the game. My guess is they don’t see mods as workarounds, but solutions for the player base for those things they don’t want to officially include in the game.

After trying it, I agree with you! This MOD is almost perfect
Thank you for the hint, will spread the word.

Cheers

You’re welcome. And you can always suggest things to GlockenGerda and maybe she’ll be able to include them in her mod.

Some inventory search option will help a LOT! There were times when I didn’t want to play just because the stash management was, and still is, a chore.

Also, I’d gladly pay rare materials to reverse engineer looted items so that I get the blueprints instead and empty some stash space.

I’ve tested the MOD on my wife, she loves the game now so Thank you!
You see, actually this was my original point.

“Why wasn’t these features included in the base game?! I would have loved it from the start!”

-her comment on enemy/team healthbars, dps meter and mat autopickup-

That’s what she said :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi Dozernis , we already asked for most of thing you mentionned, like Medea said we just need to hope our wish come true
