New to the Game, playing Witchblade with Shield

Hi,

as the title already tells, I’m new to the game and started a Witchblade with Shield.
Now I’m lvl 57 trying to figure out my build.

At the moment I’m going for that build: https:// grimcalc.com/build/RdECV4 (sorry for the space but obviously I can’t post links until I have three posts…)

But I don’t know if maybe the devotion points can’t be placed better.

Any suggestions on how to optimize the build?
I’m not sure if going full points on Field Command is reasonable or maybe the points are better used for something else?

My main problem atm is the vast need of mana and I don’t know where to put my attribute points in; I didn’t invest any of them until now. ^^"
I thought of maybe going for 2:1 in physique and cunning but I’m not sure about it…

Thanks already for the help!

The link you posted doesn’t seem to work.

Your attribute point selection is not the most important thing. You may eventually need a few in spirit to wear jewelry. You can go full phys. You can go 1:1 phys:cun. Or anywhere in between. I ended up 50:30:10 on mine.

Field Command is needed. You need as much OA and DA as you can get.

You can get energy and energy regen on your gear. Or use components to help out.

Can’t comment on your devotions since I can’t see them.

okay the link really doesn’t work…too bad.

Okay for the attributes, but for Field Command I thought maybe the points on OA/DA aren’t high enough.

For the devotions I going for:

Hammer & Anvil, Hawk, Raven, Spider, Jackal, Fiend, Ghoul, Solael’s Witchblade and Abomination.

And here the link to my build: http://grimcalc.com/build/oHPNlWy

The points on field command are great. There’s not really a way to make up for them if you don’t take them.

I suspect your build is going to struggle in Ultimate. I am not sure how well the hybrid melee/caster is going to work. I don’t think you have enough damage and I don’t think you have enough defense.

Your devotion in the grim calc doesn’t match what you wrote. You put points in Berserker instead of Solael’s.

Are you using a dagger for your weapon? You show points in Oklaine’s Lantern, which requires a dagger. That would mean you are primarily a caster.

I think you should decide whether you want to be a caster or melee and do one.

There are currently 2 very good witchblade builds.

  1. Imp’s OJ chaos tank - this one however uses 2h weapons and most BiS items are pretty easy to get on trading forum due to low demand. It also have very detailed lvling/gear/devotion sections.
  2. Jaja’s cadence witchblade - yes it uses shield, but getting all BiS items will take a lot of damn time.
Not sure how efficient shield build is without most BiS items, so I would personally choose to play with Imp’s build till you get some legendaries to make a switch.
Also any mana problems can be easily solved by putting ectoplasm in your gear.

ah yes that are the old constellations…apparently grimcalc didnt save the new ones correctly…
First I had the Lantern and the berserker but then I saw that I need a specific weapon for it so I changed them…
I’m using whatever 1-handed weapon is the best at the moment.
Here the build again: http://grimcalc.com/build/LHCv7jR

@MrOleg: What are BiS items?

jajaja’s Cadence Witchblade can function very wll even without the Markovian set and i recommend it if you are going 1 Hand + Shield.

BiS is Best in Slot, as in items that fit your build perfectly.

If you lack energy (it’s called ENERGY, not mana), then put Ectoplasm into your jewelry. The best solution imo!

Actually, it just means it’s the BEST item possible to obtain in game (for given build). Even it it is NOT optimal (as it often happens).

yes I meant energy. ^^

Thanks for the guide, I’ll take a closer look at it.

About items: It seems to me that in most builds uniques/legendaries are being used. But what about MIs? Aren’t they as good as they used to be in TQ?

No, they are not as good as in TQ. No stonebinder’s here. Good MIs exist but it’s very hard to get them.

Based on the grimcalc you posted you may not be able to do jajaja’s build exactly. If you’ve gone past 32 in Occultist. It’s probably salvageable.

MI is similar to finding Bramblewood bows in TQ but most used MI are rings, pants and shoulders, you need luck to get the proper suffix and prefix. Some of the good roll MI are very hard to farm as there will be only 1 hero/boss drops it unless you play crucible DLC

I already have 50 points in Occultist because of Posession. Seems the build from jajaja is nice but not with chaos damage. :-/

Too bad about the MIs, I liked that not only Uniques/Legendaries are good to use.

I’ll just try the build as it is and if it doesn’t work later on there are still enough combinations of masteries that I can try.

Chaos works ok but is not ideal because Curse of Frailty does not reduce chaos resistance. I want to try it using vitality damage but I have not gotten there yet. That could possibly work. There is good gear for that build but it just may not have enough damage.

Another choice is to get GDStash and use the character editor to adjust your mastery points.

Yes that’s too bad that CoF doesnt reduce chaos resistance. I’d take it immediately instead of SoC.

I already have GDStash (imo a must have) and maybe will change the mastery points but for now I try to get through the game with my build.
Vitality damage sounds good, too.
