New type of wall: Boiling oil wall

Good morning everyone,

This idea follows exchanges on the thread “Alternatives to double/triple walls”.

I wanted to suggest an idea that could potentially satisfy players who would like to stick to a single wall layer to organize their defenses without requiring another buff to stone walls.
An issue with walls today, is that you can’t do much while raiders are smashing them until they get inside your city. You can send your garnison, but sending it outside of the walls can be very risky, and towers are not very effective against invading armies.

The idea is a wall equipped with a boiling oil cauldron. Essentially, the item to build is just going to be a new type of wall - so the cauldron would be included when the wall is built.

It would work as such: this piece of wall has an effect radius (mostly covering its base). When raiders are entering in the radius, the cauldron would spray the oil (automatically, to make it simple) dealing high damage to raiders.
The cauldron would have a long cooldown phase before it could be triggered again.

Please, let me know what you think!

Maybe the damage can be dealt when the enemies destroy the wall.
That way we lose something in the process but at least the enemies have taken a good first hit
so that the towers will have an easier time killing them.

I don’t like the idea of unmanned walls taking action. If a tower or manned gate building is in radius then the guard could activate the enhanced wall defense.

Having wall defenses could be nice. I’d keep it simple and just have a Machicolation upgrade over gates/on the walls that would drop stones on attackers. Stones could then be considered a dropped resource and be picked up by laborers after the attack?
