new warder and new to game

ive recently just started playing the game im currently a level 32 warder looking for some help in the right direction. i went full stills into primordial strike and what not but i die super quick. This is my first build and just need help for steps to the right directions on what skills i should focus on. Im not sure if the route im going is correct or not. any advice will help! thank you everyone.

you can use https://grimcalc.com/ to share your skills/build with us,
also a screenshot of your char would help to get a glance on your HP/resists etc.

genereally speaking as a melee a good rule of thumb is to have your lvl x 100 HP up to lvl 50.

Thanks will do.ill do that once I get home!

i still have a few skills and attribute points left over. im just trying to find the right build for me for being new. something that can hit kind of hard and tank.

Ok so on first glance, here’s what i would suggest to change:

  1. leave Menhir’s Will at 1, its generally a really good onepointer.

  2. Take points out of Military Con - Together with the point from Menhir’s will you can now invest into your mastery Bar and get the same results - more health, but on top of that also other stats.

  3. Try to reach one of the exclusive skills at 50 Mastery points, keep in mind as stated above investing into Mastery grants you stats, so not at all wasted Skillpoints, however for further input other people might be able to help better as i never played a warder. Maybe there are some guides out there aswell, check the Compendium:

yea,

Checking the Compendium guide and all that fun stuff is a good idea to try to find a direction with the build… Even Googling Grim Dawn Warder builds to some ideas from that too helps since the Compendium is fantastically kept, but still some builds are missing from it…

In general… If you are not planning to deal with Pets, I’d avoid put any points into the Briarthorne at all… Also, I notice you went with Primal Strike, while it’s a good AOE clearer, single target it’s not great, and more importantly you’re skipping the Savagery line (which it’s 2nd ability has excellent health regen you’re missing out on…) and personally I find Savagery better.

The thing I find about Warders they can still have excellent AOE, even if they don’t get Primal Strike, you’ll just find through other methods… In my case it’s through Feral Hunger, the Tempest Devotion, and naturally the Stormreaver Axe once you get that. (you can also add Wind Devil and Grasping Vines for the little AoE it does too)

Granted you’re only in normal, and going into Elite, but 2 out of 3 I mentioned are easily obtainable. I would only put just enough points into Feral Hunger though to make it so it procs 25% of the time. Tempest is located on the blue side, and not to hard to get only a 5 purple and 5 blue requirement I believe. Also some people also like Zolhan’s Technique too on the Solider side… I just personally don’t like going with to many weapon skills that have a chance to proc, and since Feral Hunger has a life regain health on it, I find it more valuable to always proc instead.

Keep in mind though the Devotion of Tempest is pretty depended upon crits, and if your OA (offensive ability) is not in a good spot, you won’t take full advantage of Tempest, in that case devotion abilities like Falcon, although Nerfed (25% main hand dmg instead of the nice 65% I believe it used to be) is still good for leveling purposes and Tsumani devotion as well, another decent AOE clearer for leveling…(however with Tsumani you’ll have getter options to choose at end game though, so I wouldn’t advise keeping that one)

also, I would put a point into Grasping Vines and Entangling vines, the life leach on em is rather nice to have, even as a 1 pointer. Also start putting a bit more points into Wendigo Totem… if you can manage to have it around 5-6 it’s pretty nice to have, but not super important while you’re leveling.

Here’s how my build looks like now, keep in mind this is with Buffs and particular items:

Currently I’m a lighting based build and at level 85:
Weapon - Stormreaver
Chest - Divinesteel Hauberk
Pants - Stormcage Legguards
Shoulders - Dawnguard Epaulets
Bracers - Empowered Thundertouch Bracers
Feet - Boneshatter Threads
Rings - Mutagenic Sigil & Ring of the Black Matriarch
Neck - Empowered Bamblewood Amulet
Head - Dawnguard Helm…
Medal - Empowered Tempest Sigil
Belt - Sash of Bloodlord
Relic - Eye of Storm (this is one is huge if you go lighting… try to craft it eventually…), in the meantime an easily craftable Relic that packs a hell of a punch AOE ability (called Gavel of Justice) is the relic called Arbiter (Transcedent Relic, which means it will probably stop dropping from Elite on)… If you’re able to get the blueprint, craft that in the meantime, it’s not lighting based , but good enough to help you level at least.

Note the Empowered items, there’s low level items of that as you level, so if you happen to be going lighting , which from the looks of you taking Primal Strike it seems you are, than just be on the look out for similar gear.

Here how’s my skills look with the devotions, this is without gear:

Notable standout devotions if you planning to use a 2 hander (why wouldn’t ya you’re a Shaman!.. lol)

Kraken!.. big one for 2 handers… Also if you’re planning on going Lighting based, than Widow and Spear of heaven are a must to work towards as I’ve been told… Personally, I enjoy Tempest a ton too, feel like it’s vital for a lighting build too, but not many feel that way, so Tempest can be skipped if you do feel you prefer to have other devotions instead.

For survivability, while I hear it’s not as strong as it used to be, Behemoth is a really solid defensive devotion to pick up… Has a ton of Regen on it, and more importantly has a nice proc…

Here’s my skills with all my gear now, keep mind this one doesn’t include devotions…

So yea while it took a lot of farming to do on Ultimate to get where I’m at now, and ironically still don’t have the best items yet for my set, (Need the Ultos Set, lol). It puts in pretty good position to at least do most content in the game… As fully buffed with all my auras I mostly at 80% resist for everything, and around 37K dmg.

Btw, if you can craft it look into the Weapon Components of Hollowed Fang and the more advance version of that which is Haunted Steel… Both give a life leech item ability which again is nice to have.

Anyway, hope this helps give ya a good idea on where to go I know level you’re first char can be brutal and while I’m not expert either it just helps to know this kind of information while leveling , lol.

thank you guys, i truly appreciate you taking the time out to help a newbie! if i choose to match your guy pretty much exactly, what should i focus on being the level im at now, and what should be my left and right click?

p.s im now level 36.
