Newbie help

I’ve been playing grim dawn for almost 2 weeks now and im really enjoying it so far, just cleared elite storyline but AoM content seems to be wrecking me atm…
Since i dont know what to do/go for next, can anyone tell me what should i be doing/farming/respeccing? Most of the skills/devo is self made, so i know there are a lot of mistakes.

This is how my char is atm http://www.grimtools.com/calc/O2GWaXX2

Any feedback is appreciated atm

P.S. If my char is terrible beyond fixing please tell me so i dont waste more time grinding on this one, maybe this is how far my char can go,idk

looks like a solid build. devotions are well chosen and the skills also look decent to me.

the only thing that seems odd is the lack of components & augments. you have some components (like antivenom salve) on your stuff, but not on all items.

so putting components on all items is an easy way to improve the character (if you haven’t noticed, the inventor apprentice in DC and one NPC in the steelcap district at the end of AoM can also remove compoents from items, so you can either keep the item and put another component on it or destroy the item and keep the component to put it on another item)

likewise, you don’t use any augments. check the faction vendors of all the factions you met on your playthroughs. you get the first augments for weapons and rings at level 40 and later (level 70+) you can also buy augments that add resistances to the other armor slots.

use those augments to get your resistances up. they are pretty cheap.

if you don’t have the reputation to buy faction augments, that would be a worthwhile farm goal (do bounty quests for rep or simply kill bosses and heroes that give faction rep for the factions you haven’t maxed yet).

also, once you hit max reputation with a faction, you can buy mandates from them which you can use on your future characters to double rep gain for them (ie. they probably won’t have to farm rep at all- will get enough to max rep by simply killing stuff during the playthrough)

AoM content is much harder than normal game.
If you feel too weak, just skip it.

Getting my resists up is what i’ve been looking for quite a while now ! Didnt know i could use both components and augments on the same piece of gear !! Although i only have max rep in 2 factions, farming bounties seems like a good start to go (just honored with the others unfortunately)
Any gear worth farming for maybe? Only thing i farmed so far gearwise is the off-hand for the 3 TSS+TSS cd, randomly bumped into it then i farmed for a good one…

If i skip it, why did i buy it in the 1st place?? :stuck_out_tongue: Where/what should i be farming for then to become stronger in order to not feel weak?? Any suggestions?

As above mentioned, your build is actually well made!

I’ve read lots of newb posts seeking advice since AoM release, most of their builds are very glass cannon-y, but your build is well balanced between offense and defense.

Once you fix your resists with augments and components, you shouldn’t have much problem in Elite. Mind you AoM contents added lots of debuffs for monsters, so make sure you overcap your resistances and be careful when you have debuff symbols on your char.

Even if you can deal with AoM contents, I’d still suggest to skip new nemesis (enemy with Red text name) for now especially the Beast and C’thonic ones.

One suggestion though is to use Olexra Flash Freeze, it is the best CC skill for cold casters.

At 72, I think you’re a bit underleveled for the content, SoT and BoC are good areas to farm for xp and Legendaries if you can handle those dungeons.

Thanks a lot for ur kind words mate! Since i cant tell abbreviations atm, i guess SoT and BoC stand for Steps Of Torment and Bastion of Chaos areas? They are the ones with the skeleton keys right? I dont have any of them atm though, and i cant craft the mats needed for them, seems like i miss the recipes for them.
As a side note, i noticed my Offensive Ability is quite low, so is my crit chance… Is it worth it using Hand Of Ultos Devotion with such a low crit chance? Maybe i should recpec into something else and coming back to it when i get better gear? The proc seems insane though…

Well, if you started from scratch, AoM content might be too hard for your character. It’s way too overtuned, enemies have much higher HP, hit like trucks and litter ground with tons of unavoidable DoT damage. When you have an average character, who just finished normal(elite), he wont be prepared for that.

The best way to farm legendaries for a weak character is farming wasps starting from Twin Falls waypoint and following the road into the wasp nest (kill all heroes and bosses on your way, skip trash). Wasps are very weak, and spawn lots of heroes (and each hero kill offers just the same chance for legendary drop, no matter how strong or weak he is). Also, you will get tons of Royal Jelly to make useful potions, and Serrated Spikes (a very useful component for crafting in AoM).
When you get a bit stronger, you may try to farm Cronley’s HO. There are some wasps there too, but also lots of heroes/bosses (especially if you chosen to spare Direni). But when you get Nemesis rep, Fabius may spawn there. He isnt the toughest guy (if compared to AoM content), but still quite challenging.

for the first part of the expansion content (gloomwald/ugdenbog), the poison resist augment from the rovers should be helpful (+15% poison resist). if you don’t have them at the required rep level, you can gain rep quite easily by killing undead heroes/bosses. sometimes you can snatch a bounty mission that sends you to the arkovian undercity, so you can grab the rep from that bounty and kill a few random undead heroes along the way. shouldn’t take long to max them.

there’s lots of poison damage from all those plants etc, so getting your res up from 20 to 80 should help a lot in that part.

the later part of AoM has lots of aether damage. that’s a bit harder to come by. if you didn’t kill the outcast witch in fort icon, you can buy a +10 aether resist augment from her. the black leagion also has an augment that adds +7 aether and chaos. there isn’t all that much poison damage in that final act, so if you can’t max aether res while also keeping the poison augments, you can overwrite the poison augments with the aether augments.

Solid build. Good advice to patch it up. thumbs up
