Noob explanation of Critical Hits please

Like I get the concept - critical hits are when you do a really big hit and a multiplier is calculated on the damage. And the chance of a critical hit depends on the relative OA of you and the DA of your victim. But in practice, what kinds of levels of critical hits should a good character be aiming for and through what means - OA increase? Cunning? Equipment? %critical hit increases?

Thanks as ever, g.

Nothing???

Definitely through flat OA and multiplicative OA. Also, Critical hit damage too.

Some of this depends on your character and style. If you are spamming spells or attacking quickly, then you really only want enough OA to hit your enemies, as crits aren’t your primary damage style. If you’re using big hits, the reverse is true.

The issue with focusing Crits in this game is that Bosses and Nemesis are…For most builds, uncrittable. So Crits are only useful for Heroes and regular monsters.

This is completely wrong. It’s quite easy to able to crit bosses and Nemesis. Around 2500 is enough the able to crit Nemesis steadily, with more OA making critting Nemesis quite easily. Most builds can reach 2500 with not much effort.

So 2500 OA is the thing to reach by end game (lvl 85)?

Yeah, around that. 2700 and up would be the ideal, but it’s kind of difficult to reach that if you don’t have great gear.

I said it was basically unrcrittable. 2500 OA, that’s what, a 2% or less chance? It may as well not be there on bosses and nemesis spawns. If you try and make a build that’s heavy on Crit Damage, with 2500 OA, you’ll find yourself hard up on damage.

2500 OA is good to shoot for, because that usually gets you a fair chance to hit, lowers your missing. It’s not going to get you much for crit chance, though, so don’t expect it.

2%, uncritable, lowers your missing tell me more plz

Tho 2.5k OA is low

To OP:

Red text

Around 2500 leaves you with 100% chance to hit and around maybe 13% to 15% to crit on Nemesis. That’s not uncrittable, my 2H Chaos Witchblade has a little more OA than that and he crits Nemesis really often.

A lot of builds can have high damage and still have high OA. You just need a good balance between the two. OA is also a damage increase, since the higher your OA the bigger the crits.

DA reduction is also something worth getting but not all masteries have it.

Thanks. What drives damage and what drives OA and why are they different?
