Hello, everyone,
I built a gold mine near a wolf’s den. I built a safe way to the mine, but they keep running through the woods past the wolf’s den and dying.
In addition, the doctor//pastor wants to pick up the corpses and thus always dies. Is it possible to set up an exclusion zone somehow so that the workers/NPCs don’t always go to the wolf’s den? I’m losing my whole town because of this because my population is dying little by little because they keep wanting to retrieve the dead and want to walk to the mine through the forest instead of using the safe path
Welcome to the forum. Either fence off the wolf den area so they can’t get close to it or send all the villagers or your soldiers if you have them to destroy the den. Once the den is destroyed wolves won’t spawn there any more.
Okay, then I need to create some soldiers. At the point there are 5 wolf dens at once. Didn’t know I could destroy them. That would be the only way. Because fencing on the mountain is bad. I thank you for the quick reply. Then it’s probably not a bug after all.
No, it’s just the way the game works. When a villager dies another will go out to collect the body and so end up usually dying too because of the predators. And while they will follow roads mostly, I guess if it takes them too far out of their way they’ll shortcut to get to their destination quicker.
Had something very similar in my last game: 2 wolf dens on a hill which was completely outside any work area and not on the way to anything for my town, but one bazzlefrazzing villager wandered over there, got chased off the hill before they pulled him down, and after that every few minutes another villager would trot off to the hill to die.
Solution: since all the villagers ran the same way when the wolves started chasing them, I built a Guard Tower just outside of the radius of the wolves and manned it with a pair of crossbowmen. After that, I got a seriously wounded villager every few minutes, but a dead wolf every time, and after a few footraces between villagers and wolves I had 0 wolves on the hill.
Of course, be warned: after you eliminate the Wolf ‘dens’ (spawn points) they will re-appear on another part of the map unless you’ve already occupied all the rest of the map with buildings or Line of Sight.
Already had 7 - 8 Hunters elsewhere bringing in all the Tallow, Hides and Meat I could process: I wanted the massive Stone Source on that wolf-protected hill!
Setting up a Tower close enough to draw the outliers is still the safest way to eradicate Dens.
Let the Tower aggro/pull the pack(s), turn them into carcass collected by nearby Hunters, then rush in with anyone and destroy the Den, without having to fight any wolves.
Soldiers aren’t needed.
Even a couple of Herbalists can bring down Dens this way, in short order, as there really isn’t much to them.
This is becoming, I think, almost the rote method of Wolf Removal. In my latest game, a wolf den was blocking access to a choke point I wanted to wall off - still a couple of years away from building my first Barracks, so built (actually, moved from another location) a Watch Tower just short of the ‘wolf radius’, moved up 2 Hunters, an within about 3 minutes had wiped out the pack and the den - and the hunters hauled off 3 - 4 wolf carcasses, but that was just icing on the wolfless cake.
“Predators” might need another pass before final Release: between the Tower/Hunter Wolf Wipeout ploy, the Fenced In Boar Blocking maneuver, and the Tower in the Direction the Bears Come From Bruin Blasting, they are almost more Product /nuisance than Predators to anyone with a little experience in the game.
