that, my friend, is an Orangutan, the worlds orangest animal.
You should consider posting this as soon as possible, it probably won’t do for you what Chris Avellone did for wasteland 2, but I’m sure it will help.
Unless you have a good reason not to of course.
110.000$ already. This is so exciting.^^
not too bad, hoped it would have been a bit higher, but not too bad at all:D
We should hit the half-way mark today. I’m confident Crate will hit their goal.
Thats been a huge concern of mine since seeing all the physical rewards. More info on what happened to Star Command can actually be found on their update page.
Hopefully $100+ starting price point for a boxed version will cover a limited number printing (which is always more expensive) and shipping. Crate have also been smart and tagged on extra for shipping outside the US and Canada, although I would have felt safer had backers had to cover the shipping costs on all physical goods.
If its some of the guys from Iron Lore joining Crate, it will be enough the 1,000,000 fans of Titan Quest. ARPG’s have their own heroes, and most of them are unsung.
One of the few anyone actually knows by name is Matt Uelmen and he is a composer. Heck Medierra is one of the key people you want working on your ARPG, he designed the core mechanics for Titan Quest. It was those Medierra’s work that kept us coming back for 6 years.
Unlike traditional RPG’s where the story writers and level designers sit in the spotlight, ARPG’s have an entirely different metric for what makes them good. Does combat feel good? Does the game have a proper flow? Is the loot good? From that point it doesn’t matter what the quests and writing are, if your killing the lord of the underworld or finding a necklace for an old guy in a cave… or if you are fighting demons or turtles. By the 2nd play through you are no longer going to care and it all reads “Kill stuff for loot and xp.”
Fun dynamics as you kill things for loot and xp are very, very important and Arthur Bruno brings both in spades. On top of that there is no publisher to shackle Crate down to the bed and force themselves upon the creative part of the process with idiotic restrictions.
I will be amazingly happy with whoever they bring in as long as their introduction starts with “Our old friend from” because that’s a huge part of indie development, working with your friends on a project you love.
I think it would be a good idea too. There needs to be some incentives/goals above the initial one to propel things forward. I’m sure I dont have to tell Medierra about the psychology of rewards.
Speaking of which I read on another forum that the fast paced gameplay was off putting to one guy as he didnt want to be always having to fight things, for him to many monsters was a bad thing. Guess you cant please everyone.
Well, that dream can be yours for the low low cost of a $4,000 pledge!
Well I hopped into the KS campaign like I said I would (which made my son happy).
I’d assume they mean after the Kickstarter collects the funds, the confirmation of your payment receipt.
Hmmm… that have to wait until Grim Dawn KS is over and successfully funded!
nice one, getting a lot of publicity
I want a morphing tinfoil hat like Fry has in Futurama.
sounds great, count me in wanting a tinfoil hat too
We are doing pretty good. http://www.kicktraq.com/projects/winterkewlgames/yogventures/ that project was funded in 9 days and had a linear growth rate. I also wanted to let you guys know this guy known as “TB” does a youtube show called “kicksmarter” where he features kickstarters. We need to get grim dawn on there…Arthur perhaps you can message him? I let people know on the kickstarter as well. Kotaku had yet to feature this game, and I think the same is true of gametrailers. Let’s get campaigning people!
Rhis mentioned on the irc channel when TB’s name came up, as they had no idea who the guy was, but once he know, he said that they would keep him in mind
but still, getting TB to even mention a game, would probably cause a spike in funding, so yeah I still thinking getting in touch with TB is a really good idea, yes if GD carries on the way its going till be be around a week or more to fully fund, but I think if we want it a bit earlier and still plenty of room to go over budget, I say getting in touch with TB is a must have
do does pull in a lot of views, is there a decent way to contact him?
Hi Silversaint, could you email [email protected] with your question please - then Rhis can tell you what he needs and make sure you get taken care of properly. Thanks!
We can’t announce the new guys until we reach our goal, since it could create conflicts for them at their current jobs.
I’m surprised Rhis doesn’t, being a fellow Brit, but I do know who Total Biscuit is. We’ll definitely contact him soon, as well as some other folks. I think there is some value in spacing things out a bit so that we keep the excitement rolling instead of having it all hit at once.
We’ve actually be quite cautious about the reward costs. I worry a bit that it may have resulted in people not pledging as much but, at the same time, I think other KS projects have over-promised and incurred too much of a fulfillment burden on what is supposed to be fund-raising. I mean, as much as we want to provide you guys with value, we want to make a game, not just posters and t-shirts. So, we kept the physical items higher up and we avoided stuff like t-shirts which cost more to make than I think most fans value them. I know a lot of people said they’d rather have a poster and a poster is like 1/2 the cost or less of a t-shirt, so win-win.
We’re also in a different place than the Star Command as a company. We did all the legal work years ago and are familiar after years in existence of the tax liabilities we have and cost of operations. I also have over 13 years experience working on traditional PC games now and for over 8 years I’ve been in a lead position where I’ve been privy to the budgeting side of project planning and development.
Our goal is so low because we started from a full ARPG sourcecode that represents about $3m worth of development and we’ve put in the equivalent of over $800k worth of unpaid labor over the past couple years. Having already worked on 2 shipped ARPGs that are very similar to our current effort, we have the experience to know exactly what we’re making and that increases the efficiency of our work tremendously.
So, I think we’re in a good place. It will still be a challenge but I feel confident we have pretty good odds of pulling this off.
I just look at the kick-starter campaign and the video! I was so focus and emotionally driven into it, and when Arthur bruno speak I almost thought he is going to cry of emotion in the last scene before the video was done … passion, passion that’s all I say man!
