Grim Dawn, as it stands, has a grand total of 2 cutscenes, and I love them both. I was a bit sad that the introduction to the Forgotten Gods expansion (aka the dude bringing you up to speed with the turn of events, and that they require your help on another continent) was not accompanied by a cutscene to properly set the tone and scale of the expansion. With AoM, this was different. The horror from seeing people torn apart in Malmouth was a great introduction to the looming threat from the north-east that had been left unchecked for far too long.
Now I think cutscenes can easily be overused, so I am not asking for cutscenes for every arc (though I would like that, they would probably be skipped in most future playthroughs, and GD is a game of multiple playthroughs), but there is only so much you can do cinematic-wise in an isometric game that you play maximally zoomed out for better overview. And the world is beautiful, Aetherial Titans are horrible, the Gargoyle demon-things that I forgot the name of are absolutely massive, but you just don’t get to experience much of that from your vantage point. I think the world and art (both graphical and music), as well as the voice acting, which I like very much, deserve a bit more showcasing.
So, for the next expansion, can we have an introductory cutscene setting the stage, like with the Malmouth expansion? Pretty please? ![]()
