Lokhor and Leap were found just in the past couple days and maybe there’s even more that people can find. The latter three are builds that use some bizarre tech too that you wouldn’t expect to get used in that way. Lokhor uses the physical spam BH axe, Bleed Leap uses the physical wolf conduit, and pierce AAR uses a white weapon with AAR ascend that you can literally farm at the blacksmith.
These are expected to pop up and I assume they are just temporary because they rely on broken and likely unintended interactions that make a single skill so strong you just need to supplement it a stat-stick mastery.
The image was funny because one of the earliest meta-defining builds posted on the forums that I remember from the base game was a physical Witchblade that was basically everything in Soldier and only CoF and BoD and Aspect in the Occultist side.
For some more underpowered things, can we please help out poor old Necro?
Spectral Wrath: Why can’t this just be a normal rr skill? It feels like this skill has five billion different things holding it back for no justifiable reason. Firstly, you have to get hit for it to even trigger. Now, if this was like on Soldier or something, sure, that might generally be a reasonable thing to expect. However, I remind you that Necro is one out of the three masteries in the game that do pet builds. This means that in order for your pet necro build to get any rr, you have to play in the exact opposite way you’d want to play a pet build in that you have to now tank the hits instead of the pets. Just generally though even for every other necro build, you are basically never applying this rr debuff to normal enemies because you will kill them faster than generally they will be able to even hit you. On top of that, we also have the retal problem where in order for us to even trigger this thing, we have to get successfully hit, so now high DA is actively punishing our ability to apply our basic RR in our mastery. Furthermore, if this single limitation wasn’t enough to make you puke at the thought of this skill, we have, for some reason, a cooldown with this trigger. That’s right folks, we are straight up not allowed to apply this debuff to multiple enemies. Now, I’m sure someone will bring up that it technically has aoe. Yes, it does have a pathetic 4 meter radius per trigger, allowing you to occasionally hit the butt buddy of the original target and pretty much no one else. Did I mention that this also has one of the shortest duration debuffs of any RR skill in the game at a whopping 5 or so seconds at 10/10 (improving only 0.1 seconds per level after that)? You think Inquisitor’s Seal is clunky merely just for making you stand in it? Yeah how about your entire mastery’s RR being locked up behind a pseudo-single target, forced face tanking skill?
Mark of Torment is now officially worse than a circuit breaker. 16 second skill recharge vs 5. Active and needs to target an enemy vs triggered ability. No other remarkable stats besides absorb vs absorb + metric ton of %oa. Now granted, Untamed Rage is a pretty decent skill, but that’s no excuse for Mark of Torment being now a fairly lackluster ability. You basically just press it to have a small duration of feeling what it’s like to play a better mastery, aka Arcanist (especially because they’re both kinda zero rr masteries if you refer back to my criticism of Spectral Wrath). This skill used to basically give double the absorb it currently does. I understand there were concerns at the time about people chaining defensive skills together to facetank things, but honestly, in the world of modern day Grim Dawn, Mark of Torment is not saving you from sunder and we could very easily and safely buff the values of the absorb.
And uh yeah… all of Necro’s main skills outside of Drain Essence (mostly because of all of the insane item modifiers it can get now after being the textbook meme skill of Grim Dawn for quite some time) and maybe (and emphasis on the “maybe”) Blight Fiend are kinda trash. Skeletons die to a stiff breeze. Bone Harvest builds are now the scaepgoat meme of zero dps builds. Ravenous Earth has kinda always sucked, but even more than that, why in the world is Foul Eruption on kill? Don’t you think that this skill would suck a lot less if it had that extra bit of damage and flat RR, you know, to help it kill things? Should I even bother mentioning Siphon Souls or Reap Spirit? I feel like these are just forgotten skills at this point.
Three days late to the conversation, but in the before-time, back pre-Ashes of Malmouth, the Chinese Crucible meta was 4k-health pure-Arcanists with Warpfire + Aldanar’s Vanity cooldown reset OFF and Mirror.
Mirror’s CD may have been increased a tad since then (and the items nerfed), but OFF wasn’t really touched.
So no, given the right circumstances, OFF goes from “it sucks anyway” to “warping the game in a way that has never happened before or since.”
the stacking freeze “exploit” was patched out, and that was the only reason it was used/it warped the game wasn’t it ? - and was the very thing that kinda nuked it from getting meme used, after cdr item changes and even after OFF getting baked in freeze shred now too (to be more useable)
Every necro build right now and every ability are balanced around this functionality on Spectral Wrath. If you dramatically change it, you’d need a massive balance pass on everything related to the mastery.
As for pet builds, get fucked I think it fits the design of this archetype. If you want more dmg from pets - get closer to the target, expose yourself to danger. If you want to play safer - deal less dmg. Skeletons builds occupy the largest portion of strong pet builds. Maybe smth radically changed in the xpac for pets safety? I’m not aware of it.
i think Wrath might be misunderstood sometimes, you don’t actually need to be “directly” hit i think. So you only need to be close enough to get touched by debuffs or aoes or “hit by something” - then it auto aoe applies on anything/ zaria Curse/auras etc
Didn’t check with Dread’s ground pools, but i’m pretty sure Bero got repeat hit simply from me tripping over goo
