Option to play the classic game/aom without uninstalling the DLC every time

Will there be an option to play the classic game/aom without uninstalling the new DLC Forgotten Gods every time I want to play with my friends?

And will there separated save folders for classic/aom/and the new one?

I had really bad experience with aom. All my classic chars were converted and I wasn’t able to play with my friend anymore. And if you look at the steam reviews I wan’t the only one.

Edit: That thread was moved and my question wasn’t clearly anymore. My question was about the new DLC Forgotten Gods and if I have to uninstall it every time I want to play classic/aom.

it will be the same here most likely, it’s impossible to revert a char which had gained attribute/skill points in the xpac for example.

I think the devs still think that GD MP is just a small thing so its not a priority I guess. MP games still scales badly.

If you look in your save folder you should see that there are two different folders for characters who have been into AoM. One is the AoM one and the other is the base game one.

And no there will be no option to choose what to play. Easiest solution is for your friends to buy AoM (since it’s needed for FG anyway) or you to buy it for them.

I havent tried this yet but apparently there is a way to play the base game without dlc.

instead of uninstalling the Ashes DLC I recommend to add “/nogdx1” (without the quotes) to the game as start parameter.
This allows you to play the base game without the need of uninstalling the Ashes DLC and to reinstall it again.

Ofc you have to remove the parameter again to play AoM, but this way is faster than uninstalling and downloading the DLC.

Thanks for the answer.

Nope there is only one save game folder (remote\save\main)

And no this time I won’t make the same mistake. The easiest solution for me is then not to buy the dlc.

Edit: Thanks lohenien, I try that later. Let’s hope that it works with the new dlc. That would change my mind about buying it

Edit2: And at the devs I don’t need a pretty in game switch button, just some different “.exe files” ore a config tweak and I’m happy.

Yes, and in that folder are your characters. There should be two folders in there with the same character name, one which is for AoM and the other for the base game.

Sorry, just dropping in but i don’t see an AoM sub-folder. Structure is :

My Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main\_CharName\levels_world001.map <folder>
My Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main\_CharName\maps_survivalworld_a.map <folder>
My Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main\_CharName\maps_survivalworld_b.map <folder>
My Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main\_CharName\maps_survivalworld_c.map <folder>
My Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main\_CharName\player.g00 <file>
My Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main\_CharName\player.g01 <file>
My Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main\_CharName\player.g02 <file>
My Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main\_CharName\player.g03 <file>
My Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main\_CharName\player.gdc <file>

Which one is AoM?

There isn’t an AoM substructure. You should see something like this.

The older ones should be the pre-AoM characters, the latter the AoM.

Well that how it was intend to work, but it didn’t. Like I said all my chars were converted. All names have only one “_” and not two “__”. So I don’t have double names like you.

The other day I rolled a toon called ‘JC Flat Damme’. You guessed it, trying a build with lots of flat damage to pets.

Also,
‘Infilgrater’ (dual wield pierce)
‘Frozen Ivy’ (cold + poison)
‘Festra’ (poison, lots of poison)
‘Necrosarge’ (DK summoner)
and ‘Bob’, he’s a soldier

Well I do try and give my characters names that are pertinent to their classes.

… ‘Nutty Slacker’?

Yeah, well, that one was just because I liked it. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s my pure Necromancer.

Can you please post a screenshot of your game save folder showing chars older and newer than AoM? As this is how the game works, and you not having these different save folders is either a bug, or someone else has moved your saves to mess you about.

I don’t have screenshot before aom.

That screen is without aom but I extra downloaded aom with took me ~15min that the reason I want a way without installing/uninstalling it.

After that nothing changed in the savegame folder  And what’s weird alle saves have only one “_” but one char is a classic char…

Well, I learned something new today then, ‘nutty slack’, classic. Thanks man.

Of course, not to be confused with ‘nut sack.’

Be safe out there.
