Hello everyone! I have been lurking for a long time, but finally decide to post and hopefully get a few opinions and questions answered. I’m 800 hours and absolutely adore this game. Definitely one of my favorite ARPGs that I have played. Though, after so many hours into the vanilla game, I feel that I am coming close to the point where I want to try something a bit new and have been looking into the mods that are available.
I was hoping to find something that increases the challenge and maybe expands on the mechanics (fitting to their theme) of boss fights and or higher tier trash mobs to make the game more mechanically engaging/tactical and hopefully add a bit of diversity when it comes to engagements. What I have noticed is the majority of these mods in order to up the “challenge” aspect of fights, seem to only increase mob density to the point where you’re either fighting 3 more of the same boss or your screen is absolutely covered in mobs/spell effects cluttering the screen adding no real tactical mechanics other than kiting and running in circles trying to not get surrounded or overwhelmed (which I guess is the challenging part). I know that it’s a hack and slash ARPG and killing untold amount of mobs is part of the game I just wish there was a different approach making fights more interesting rather than being overly cluttered and to the point where it’s almost silly.
When it comes to every overhaul I have tried, I was just wondering why increasing mob density over expanding on mechanics and diversifying fights seems to be preferred? Does this stem from a limitation of the engine or modding tools? I know that some boss mechanics can be poorly telegraphed, especially with the amount of spell effects going off, and because of so many spells going off the sound effects also get muffled so maybe making certain attacks more deadly or fatal wouldn’t be the best thing to do as it’s already quite difficult to visually or audibly make out some attacks without having prior knowledge to the fight’s mechanics. I feel that I might be in a minority that hopes for mechanically expanded fights that require some sort of thought and tactical diversity.
