Passive defense against the army (200 raiders)

Hi all,

Working great, they just break 5 gates to enter, fews walls, and after when they are in the city they have 2 gates to break to access the towers (only 1 tower lost).

So very few damage, and no soldiers needed

Would triple towers around the gates since that’s where they spend most of the time to break in.
You’d probably still be in a 4-digits monthly net income.
It’s a good idea, since soldiers just take too much wealth to their graves (plate armor + weapon + other goodies and the high fee all the time).

When they finaly enter the city after many deads, the remaining raiders receive arrows from every directions. And they still have 2 gates to destroy before breaking a tower. So they leave fast and stole nothing.

At the center (vault, trading post, store house, Barracks and city center), there is 4 towers + 12 soldiers in the Barracks. So the fews raiders that come here are killed on the spot before breaking a wall

The base is a cross :

                residential
    industrial / commercial / residential
                 residential

Amazing how fast raiders get through so-called ā€˜Fortified Gates’ though, they appear to be made of balsa wood and sticky tape… in RL strong wooden gates with iron bands and multiple braces would never be able to simply fall into dust at the hands of a even one or two raiding bods only, armed with clubs or swords… I built all these layers but they still just breeze through them. So far I have 3 gate levels but that just doesn’t keep them out even with towers. I like the way you have literally created integrated towers with no attack space beneath them, will need to copy that tactic thanks

My issue is that I am on lakeland map and my site is surrounded by many lakes so there’s no one flat space I could find to make one giant grid town so I now have 4-5 separate walled enclaves with crop fields interspersed between them and much of the time is spent repairing the endless wall segments that raiders tend to smash, and dealing with the subsequent wildlife incursion into the crops that screws up harvests and food supply as a result of raiders being fixated with destroying any type of wall and gate. It also means I need a barracks in each enclave as one in the first main town is far too far to ever be of tactical use in the other settlements. The same with outlying industrial areas where I have not walled because it just makes raiders go more to attack them.

I dread to think how many clicks on each individual wall segment you have had to make to prioritise that much wall building to get it done,; it’s my number one hate in this game and never can understand why they omitted wall prioritisation from the early access release.

Yes you can copy, this defense is good!
At first just build the first line of walls, then prioritize just at the end the remaining walls. Then second and third lines.
Closing the center, markets and towers is interresting because when they enter the city it is the second line of defense.
This city is build on the easy map Idyllic valley, large and flat. Good to test and learn the game! (It need arround 100 x 100 flat)

i only have 2 layers and they never get in. Your layout is not good because it is too spread out and you rely on triple walls mainly. What you need to do is let the raiders have a weak spot which you turn into a choke point with a barracks and many towers. In your pictures you would also put some towers where the farms are within range of the main towers. double wall them also. This will split the raiders into 2 groups. the first group gets owned by your main defenses while the 2nd group tries to get the towers sitting outside. Once the one group is destroyed in like 1 minute it is just ownage on the second group. I just had a 287 raid and I killed all 287 lol

granted in real life this would not work but the game AI is not smart enough (yet) to avoid choke points.

I always build my outposts ( two towers with double walls surrounding them.) I stagger them so if they are attacking one another 2 can be shooting them. I rarely build walls around my town because these ā€œoutpostsā€ do their jobs well. yes i have like 10-12 towers but when only 1 to 5 raiders out of 150+ make it into the city i think it’s worth it. Then I have the forges, blacksmith, storage all in the middle of town with the trader and vault wrapped in a wall with 4 towers ( one at each corner ). I have yet to lose a darn thing since i started building like this and the only thing i ever have to repair is fences ( you bullies ) and a few walls/gates around the towers.

How large is your town that you are getting 287 raiders? My town is just north of 500, and so far the largest band has been 64 raiders. I’m trying to decide how soon I need to panic.

1000 peeps but it appears there is more to it than that. How much gold you have and how many years have gone by and how strong your defenses are all seem to be part of it. It would be silly to send a force that has no chance but the game tries and fails to calc the correct amount to send because of AI flaws.
