In this place in SR, south/southwest dodges go nowhere. Other directions work. The character does a dodge animation but doesn’t move.
In this place in SR, west dodges go nowhere. Other directions work.
I use controller. 1.3.0.8.
This has caused me some consternation when I approach in that direction and try to dodge through the boss, and Ben/Gravy still sunder me because the dodge went nowhere.

That happens because, at the moment you press evade, your cursor is over “the sky”, and not over terrain that you could move towards. So then the game’s path finding cannot find a path for you to move there, because it’s impossible, and then the game doesn’t know which direction to evade towards, and just evades you in-place without actually moving.
This has happened to me many, many times with mouse+keyboard. Happens outside of the SR too.
This is a silly bug; evade does not need path-finding. It cannot “curve around obstacles” like or Vire’s Might or Rip and Tear. It should just move towards the general direction of the cursor, regardless of what exactly in the world the cursor is pointing at.
Definitely something that needs fixing because it can be a source of unfair deaths and frustration when it comes to the player’s experience.

Interesting, but when I’m using a controller, where is my “cursor”?
Should I place the mouse cursor in the middle of the screen before switching to controller?

Honestly I don’t know. I never tried GD with a controller. Doesn’t one of the controller sticks move the cursor? Or are you using WASD controls?
Either way, on your 2nd screenshot, I can see the cursor on the bottom left part of the map.
If you want, you can do a couple of tests: (after you clear the boss room in SR, to not complicate things)
A) Use the controller to move the cursor to a regular part of the terrain where you could normally walk to, then press evade.
B) Move the cursor to “the sky” or somewhere completely outside of the map, then press evade.
On my side of the game, using kb+mouse, evading in test A always succeeds and evades towards the cursor; but evading in test B always fails and evades “in place” without moving the character anywhere.
Tested and the position of the cursor makes no difference when dodging on controller. And the “evade to cursor” option also doesn’t make a difference.
Thanks for the explanation, I didn’t realize it was “dodging off-map” and thought it was something weird about the ground in those spot.
