I’ve put a doghouse directly next to some fields, but because of the shape of the fields, half of them aren’t covered by it. I’ve put another doghouse on the other side of the fields, but that leaves squares unprotected. The current locked circle is so impractical, it’ll soon force me to place doghouses directly on fields which is unrealistic and weird. Or, it’ll force me to make fields in rigid inorganic shapes in order to try to fit them in doghouse circles. Also weird. We should be able to define (teach) the dog which territory to protect, as we do in real-life. Thank you.
Agreed. It should work the same way as the rat catcher building.
Not sure why you think doghouses on fields is “unrealistic and wierd”. I think you’re making an arbitrary aesthetic choice and then you’re upset the game doesn’t support it very well. I place them on the fields and have perfect coverage.
The difference is rat catchers are people who have the intelligence to go where you tell them. For dogs, the doghouse is their home, and they patrol a circular area around it and that makes sense to me. It would be completely unrealistic to expect dogs to stay within an invisible circle placed away from their home.
Invisible fences?
I understand your point.
I could make the argument that dogs can be trained for specific things. My dog knew her territory regardless of the position of our house on the property. They don’t blindly follow a circle centered on their doghouse or any other set point. They are intelligent enough to be able to know their turf. It is part of their nature even in the wild to mark their territory and set boundaries.
That aside, games make allowances for game play. There are always disconnects from the real world. We use a circular area to mark the coverage area. It is not unreasonable to be able to establish that circle ourselves.
Maybe I have a biased view. I grew up with dachshunds, too smart for their own good and one of the most stubborn and untrainable breeds there is. Probably why I’m a cat person now lol.
