Poll on darker underground lighting

Awesome or Awful?

I know people have differing opinions on this and wanted to get an idea of what the general feeling was. Do you love it, hate it, don’t care? Think it needs to be changed back or just needs to be a little brighter / have a little more player light…

Awesome, closing thread.

The Sisko approves.

Better now. Used to be able to just up gamma and render light radius obsolete. Now that affix is useful again.

Welcome back TQ spotlight

I’ve been enjoying it so far. I haven’t had the time to test it out with light radius items but without any light radius it seems just a tad too dark right around the character. Just my opinion so far though as I said, haven’t had much time to really check it out besides playing a new Nightblade.

Otherwise I have noticed that the Nightblade’s shadow strike skill makes the screen go dark for a second while using it (not really relative besides the “darkness”). Kinda odd having this “blink” going on while using it.

I’ve also enjoyed the fog that has been added, definitely adds to the atmosphere.

Random Question about the fog: Can it be generated within buildings/underground areas?

Since it’s multi-choice, I picked the first two

I love it, but if it was made brighter I wouldn’t complain. I wouldn’t want it too much darker. I can anticipate people complaining that breakables are now really impossible to find without happening to stumble upon them. I was only in a few caves early on, but they seemed good to me.

Probably a silly decision on my part, but I voted the top option (moar darkness!) before playing the new build because up till now I have noticed that the +light radius stat is almost obsolete. With the new lighting (or lack thereof :p), the stat becomes more useful, and underground areas are a lot more tense because you don’t know what is going to jump out at you, but personally I would like to see an option (if possible) to have either “classic lighting” (normal) or “realistic lighting” (B15). If this is possible, I would now vote for that option in this poll.:smiley:

hi

don’t like it

don’t care for it

to dark cant see what’s coming for me that’s a problem

if it does not change i will wait for a mod that will

I agree fully that the option would be nice as its a way to make it personal preference as appose to majority rule, but if we can only have 1 id say darker as gamma slider does help if your unhappy, before I use to slide the gamma to the darker setting I like the mood of a dark atmosphere and felt weird seeing mobs behind walls.

personally, I like it, but I’ll need to find a light radius item to see better. this is a good thing because that affix was pretty much useless prior to this change.

that being said, you’ll never make a change that makes everyone happy.

well, that’s usually what happens in a dark cave.

Being an old fart, I like the light. It does make light radius useful though.

Love it, may need to check out how some surfaces reflect. (Walls/floors)

haha  yes to state the obvious +1

I’d prefer something between this build and last one.

Do like it, in fact wish the poll had a slightly darker option, as I would go for that.

After playing a bit more I have concluded that I actually rather like the new lighting, though personally I prefer having a +25% light radius item equipped to make it a little brighter - but that’s just me. So, I say definitely keep it as it is right now, as even though I like the brightness better with a +light radius item, that means I get the best of both worlds: the level of darkness is just as I like it, and the +light radius stat isn’t obsolete (as I believed it to be previously). Thankyou for yet another helpfully updated build, Crate!

Would be great if someone could post an image or even a short video (though an image would be better as it could be seen in higher resolution than having to play a video in that). The reason I ask is that I have uninstalled the game and don’t intend on playing it until it is fully released. NOTE: This is not because I dislike the game, in fact I love it, this is to avoid spoiling the game to much for myself.

However, I have in the past exposed my thoughts on darkness and lighting in games, so yeah, I would really love dark dungeons with bright light sources to give strong contrast between the two.
