I really love this game! The only thing currently keeping me from playing is that i already maxed out my population at 1000 flat. I´d highly appreciate if there could be an option to surpass that limit (especially with 0.8.1 performance update)

Cap is there to help with performance atm, but devs expect to remove it nearer to full release of the game.

Well, there’s an update to the Unity game engine included in this patch and that breaks the mods in v0.8.1 atm. So stick with v0.8.0 and hope the creators will get around to updating their mods when v0.8.1 releases.
