Port Valbury

How do I get over to Port Valbury? Saw it on the map and have no clue what it is…

From the homestead rift head north-east into the conflagration. There will be a rift you can take, its way before the boss just so you know, some people go way past it thinking its beyond the boss there. You will need some dynamite though and a skeleton key if you plan on running the whole area. Have fun

go from homestead towards the conflagration, eventually you will see a aether blockade which you can blow up with 3 dynamites

there you will see a rift, enter it and you will be teleported towards valbury outskirts

good luck

need a skeleton key to enter valbury itself

Oh, ive been there many times! Had no idea. Thanks for all the info

Against my better judgement I decided to give this area a look last night. Blew up the blockage soon died to floor trying to kite bad guys and not paying enough attention to ground. Respawned went into rift to soon die to yep ground, well perhaps because I was drunk I wasn’t at the top of my game but when they announced it I knew I’d hate it. I’m not barefoot I’m wearing boots so the geound should be an enemy that kills faster than bad guys. So that was my first and last experience with that area. Not fun not bothering as I’ve posted before it reminds me of the Hargate area, conflagaration, area north of blood grove… do them once or not at all and never revisit cause those areas suck.

Umm while i do hate that area but sounds to me you didn’t go into Valbury at all. There isn’t a lot of damaging floor in the challenge dungeon area, the area you were in a small part outside the gates of valbury.
The real area lies beyond those gates, you might want to try that before jumping to conclusions imo, plus i think the environment is something a player should explore atleast once.
Try it on normal/veteran if ultimate is too frustrating

Went back this am, sober , I know my biggest problem is aether resist is only 15. Dodging the ground is easy enough but what tallied my deaths to well beyond two dozen were the ironside hulks, anyform of them really as well as atherial abomanations. They are a zillion times faster than me hit well over 10k damage (as I was one shotted left and right) as a dual pistol stay back to fight and kite not an easy task with these m fer’s. Did manage to kill the gaudian gaurding the locked gate at which point I figured the dungeon is fill with more the same leading me to the conclusion not to bother and waste a key. And as always the risk reward isn’t there not a single legendary even with all the heros I killed in the port area, won’t go back with this character ever again. Maybe another character with aether resist at 80 but even still the reward won’t be worth the time I’d wager. All the rougelikes … suck from that aspect.

  • even farming loggy nets no rewards, purple wise, so really other than the one shot chest on ultimate difficulty, beating logy first time or using the guy in the jail to gamble for them where do people farm for purples? They rarely drop in world and when they do they are typically ones that drop all the time no variety, nemesis troves have netted me maybe two in all the times I’ve opened them. I loved that farming aspect of D2 killing baal or diablo you’d get something maybe not usable for that character but items dropped allowing that carrot on a string to always look appetizing. Thats what grim dawn lacks, a blast to try new builds, fun the first time in ultimate with one shot chest after that not worth the effort to play and thus move on. God save me I’m not looking for handouts and another dull loot pinata game that D3 became (as I’d quit very soon after) but some happy medium in my opinion has not been found loot drop rate wise.

It’s a fine line on what to do, I would argue not to improve drop rates in roguelikes only cause then grim dawn becomes a clone on d3 rifts and grifts while the rest of the game become forgetable and eventually becomes a game upon itself. I don’t like that as it would become grimrougedawn like diablo is riftablo. If they improve drop rates everywhere roguelikes remain a why bother area. So I have no solution but still think a reward for completly clearing roguelikes should be a switch to where the key is no longer needed as you can port in and out of them freely. That would be insentive enough for me to visit them and take the challenge. Just my two sense.

I found the new area interesting although a little too mazy, so if you decide to run it then make certain that you have two or three hours to spare. I went in with a Witchblade build that did quite well up until the final three bosses. I tried for at least a good 30 minutes to take them out, but each time I got their lives down to about 25%, as soon as I moved away to heal a bit they regenerated. It was a standoff, they weren’t going to kill me and I wasn’t going to kill them, and this went on until I finally got bored and quit the game. That being said, there are plenty of other bosses to go after and the chance for some decent loot, but unless you have very high damage and the ability to tank, the final battle might not be worth it for many.
