Just started a new game, got the Town Center constructed, and before that finished, I prioritized mining stone for a needed well. After that, I set down a well as prioritized, and then I set down 6 shacks – 3 were paused immediately and the rest I left on ‘normal’ build. I stepped away for a few minutes to take care of something. When I returned, I found that 3 of my initial settlers were dead from dehydration and the remaining 9 were all sick or on the verge of dying from dehydration as well. The well was still not built, requiring 2 more stone. Only one remaining settler appeared to be mining the stone, which had been initially selected for harvesting AND prioritized manually above all else, while the rest continued harvesting trees from the ‘paused’ outlines of future shacks… a nice feature would be to allow us to manually command these settlers to gather a specific resource when it truly is needed, rather than relying on an invisible task list that they may or may not follow, to their death in this case
The “clear ground” auto-prioritises the harvesting/clearing of the terrain. Pausing the construction doesn’t un-priortise the clearing of the ground (I got caught out with this the other way round, clearing a hidden stone before building houses as winter approached).
If you decide to pause construction of a site that needs to be cleared, make sure that you click on any trees or stone in the site area and uncheck the Priority box. Or simply delete the construction of course, which should clear any prioritised clearing.
