PSA: You should play more Hardcore

I think the changes crate made for SR so far were fine, you can’t get as ridiculously OP boss combos anymore, but the individual boss pools are still large enough to provide good variety.

Also I like that in SR you actually have to respect every single nemesis that you fight. They aren’t nerfed like in the crucible.

what, like being teleported directly into nullbolts? or being caged by benjir and pointblank nullbolts/meteor? Trap res is very hard to come by.

Don’t you have an aether cluster ready for that?:smirk:

I played some hardcore in Diablo3, that game was so mind-numbingly easy. Even if I lost a character it didn’t bother me, if I wanted I could re-roll a build within a few hours, because, yeah. Easy AF.

Grim Dawn on the other hand is a very different story. I have a rather reckless playstyle, also I tend to grow attached to my characters (I would never delete them, even my sucky builds are still around). Losing anyone would probably lead to frustration, but I haven’t tried it yet so I can’t say for sure. Maybe I will see it as an opportunity to become even better at the game.

I’ll see about that. I think I will try hardcore one day, just like I did in D3 when I was bored by normal play, but that happened rather soon. Grim Dawn hasn’t managed to bore me yet, and I already played it over 10 times longer than D3.

I think most people commenting here are missing the point and I feel unfortunately this thread will slowly derail overtime into a vacuum chamber of the same reasons why HC should be avoided…

All my playtime has been in SC. I already knew pretty early on that HC requires a higher skill set and a different approach and preparation to builds and encounters that Grim Dawn throws at you…

For HC you are playing for your stash and not for your characters. SC lets you get away with more offensive approach (less DA, more RR, less physical resistance etc.) which ends up being that a lot of the builds now days seem to be a homogeneous blob of the same thing that can steamroll content as quickly possible (SR, Crucible, Campaign, Celestials etc.) except with different elements, similar to that of Path of Exile. I’d dare say that most of those builds would probably struggle with HC. Its easy enough to optimise a build for SC that can clear the campaign, SR (up to SR60) and Crucible (Gladiator 150 - 170) etc.

Also deaths in SC end up becoming somewhat meaningless you aren’t really penalised for your mistakes or failures and you won’t learn as quickly as something like HC where you know you’ll never make that mistake again.

HC requires a more careful approach and preparation to all encounters and build design. Deaths in HC are user error such as not understanding exactly what your build is capable of doing, insufficient piloting skills, not enough of a defensive approach etc.

I personally am never impressed by builds that can push SR in SC to high levels when that is easy enough to do as you can keep dying and pushing up further without much consequence. Hearing about someone reaching higher ranks of SR in HC is truely far more interesting…

In regards to Diablo 3 I don’t think its a fair comparison its literally like comparing apples to oranges. Both may be Isometirc ARPG’s but unlike Grim Dawn, Diablo 3 has been designed to be as streamlined and as accessible to play as possible, and in general the overall difficulty of that game is lower and has a much lower skillset required than that of Grim Dawn HC. While not really related its also worth mentioning that it also has a questionably designed itemisation system as well. I would like to further mention at this point in its life cycle it has become pretty apparent that it was a failure to Blizzard and they haven’t really supported the game past Reaper of Souls except for a Switch release and it is more or less in maintenance mode for the foreseeable future with “Seasonal Updates”. Both Jay Wilson and Joshua Mosquera no longer have any involvement with the game and both have since left Blizzard to other endeavors.

EDIT: I have a lot more to say on both but for now I’ll keep it brief and will update this post over time…
