Question about falling rocks, meteors, ice and other monster abilities that has things falling from the sky

Sometimes I’ll have chosen of korvaak not dropping meteors, sometimes spam. Sometimes monsters with falling rocks like the shambler boss in A1 will drop 1 barrage, sometimes it seems like it has no CD and it spams it. Sometimes I’ll fight a monster dropping ice meteors from the sky and it will absolutely spam the hell out of it, sometimes not use it at all.

I’m just curious wtf is up with these kinds of abilities. They seem very inconsistent and random as to how creatures with these abilities use them. Logically one would think it has a long CD, but at times it’s like this skill has no CD, even casting it twice or thrice+

Can someone explain how all the “stuff dropping from the sky” abilities actually work? Because there doesn’t seem to be any learnable pattern.

Usually these abilities have a duration, similar to Devastation. Meaning if the enemy, like the Shambler, or Swillius (probably the most notorious example for SR players), casts it, rocks will continue dropping in waves for several seconds. However, the effect does not persist through enemy death, so if you kill the offending monster, the barrage will stop. So it’s not that the enemies are spamming it at some times and casting once at others. It’s that you often kill the casting monster so the barrage stops on its own. And some enemies have projectile shower skills that don’t come in waves but only drop once and then need recasting after CD ends.

You probably already know this but in case you don’t - some enemies, well Aleks at least, aim not where you are but where they predict you will be when meteor hits based on your movement

Good to know! I’ve heard his meteor is deadly to say the least. Can’t wait to die to it because I blinked :stuck_out_tongue:

I noticed this behavior in a positive way with the Lucius Arm blade… Those things are like homing cruise missiles  The main reason a Lucius Blade Arm build is so tempting is this tracking behavior. The meteors AI for targeting enemies is extremely good.

Aleks’s meteor is susceptible to impaired aim. Don’t know about the others.
