Hi – loving the game so far! Amazing.
I was disappointed that the character portraits and models are White/European – I wonder if there could be incorporation of more diverse character models.
Thanks for considering

Because peoples were white and european at this time in europe!
May be with some future DLC, others peoples and another part of the world
While the game uses medievel/colonial themes it’s set on a fantasy world that could be any period in its history.
No, they weren’t. People got around in Medieval times more than we 21st century denizens think they did. Blacks showed up in Spain, which had some small territory in north Africa. Middle Eastern peoples and mixes of Middle Eastern and English, showed up in England after the early Crusades. And there were more inter-racial mixed-lineage people then than one might think, too.
The game is what it is. Why seed crap for ppl to argue? Some races weren t that proeminent in Europe and other lands in medieval times. History is history…if you know some. Most tribes were forced to labour in europe and continental america. . And china only traded. Or mongols that wanted to conquer the world…
My husband insists that there were black traders in those days, and the game does have traders of colour.
Your husband is correct. The idea that people of colour were unknown in Europe pre-industrial times is a nationalist myth from the 19th century. Trade routes existed from India and China to England and Scandinavia as far back as the Bronze Age, and people intermarried and travelled along them.
Anyhow, it’s a game set in a fantasy setting so why not just include all the ethnotypes?
But why don’t they sell silk cloth and oranges and coffee? Maybe they do in higher tiers
I mean, it’d be awesome to see more luxury goods like those in the tiers yet to come!
What game are you playing? I see dark-skinned faces among my villagers all the time, they clearly tried to make it “diverse” in the modern meaning of that word
Not that I care about that, because race is wholly irrelevant to gameplay experience and focusing on it never made anything better in the entirety of human history. So even if it were true that the villagers are all “white”, then it would still be utterly irrelevant.
The architectural/fauna/items context is 100% central Europe between 700/1200 and the DNA study show a remarkable homogeneity in haplogroup of this period/location until late 18th era and start of colonization.
(diversity was horizontal, r1b & r1a for example)
.
Spain and south Italy had more south haplogroup at this time, but also different architecture/fauna/items. I would love to plays a map with camels, al andalous architecture and more people diversity but camels in actual game would look silly.
.
I’ts all about coherence.
History is often incoherent, and messy. Interesting finding, for Britain, rare but not unknown in that time frame. Archeological finding on a skeleton from Ipswich.
I’m fine with the portraits I’ve seen though.
I have to agree. Race, diversity and themes of such are completely irrelevant in a game such as this because that sort of thing is wholly immaterial for what you’re doing and has absolutely no effect on the in-game goings on.
This is a city building game with its own challenges and difficulties. Nothing more, nothing less. No one gets punished or discriminated against based on skin color and the very concept of that sort of thing happening in a city building game in and of itself is ludicrous.
Besides, if the developers feel that it needs to be implemented then it will be.
Some ppl need to bring all this to games in 2022. so many useless complains. other games are under pressure too. last night one guy asked the same question but for Total War warhammer 3 lol
The solution is easy enough really. Just make all the characters in every game green or blue. No one will know which races have been left out then.

People blended a lot. There’s Ghengis Khan genes in all of us. The vikings sailed from Northern America to the middle east. In the early medieval days.
But how is the term ‘people of colour’ not coined racist yet. It sounds so disgusting, putting in box like.
If the game was set in Africa, Asia or Americas you wouldnt want half of the models to be white european, yes? I wouldn’t.
No need to force diversity, I think. Not including every race on earth does not mean you exclude them.
Alas, themes of the game are, quote:
, and nature, buildings and animals suggest europe, then naturally pops could look european.
Of course, I am not saying that europe was all white, but most was. Ie. Romani, Greek, Turkish, Italian and steppe hordes were surely different in apperance, but they kind of are in the game already.
So, I say no need to force it.Maybe add soooome, but please do not overdo it.
Theres a lot of different “colors” on the NPCs portraits. Only the models dont have them, but that doesnt affect gameplay at all.
Exactly. But the author missed those.
