Rework for Retaliation

heya everyone

i guess most ppl know whats coming - but i still like to explain

retaliation is a decent system to create a char about pushing to the highest possible defensive and then facetank the shit out of enemies, using cooldowns and pot’s to empower the hurting lession for everyone attacking us

its slow - it really is, compared to like every “meta”-build it is a dying turtle, but there are players that dont care too much about that - i am one of them

the system is quite fun for ppl that enjoyed that kind of builds in other games, but in grim dawn its having a MASSIVE flaw that hurts the build in every imaginable way - RETALIATION ONLY WORKS MELEE! there is an alternative stat - reflect - but that one is simply not any compareable to retaliation, its scaling super bad and most of the times you simply have to skip enemies that arent any dangerous to you - you just wont damage them at all thanks to their low damage-output, retaliation is a fixed amount of damage, reflect works with % of taken damage - thats pain in the ass in crucible, its pain in the ass in act 2 and its pain in the ass in general

could we just make retaliation working on range and spells? in terms of balance - we deal less damage and clear slower than other, but its a very very safe build that encourage to directly face the enemies

much love to 420WeedWizard for making a mod for that one, it allowed us retaliation players to see the difference… and its a overwhelming great experience compared to vanilla, but wouldnt it be great to dont need a mod for it? its a small change that expand the build-versatility a bit more

most likely i wont reach many players with that one - but its one that i would LOVE to see in the game and im not seeing how it would be any “bad” to patch it - the effort to do this isnt really high and it allows a much better and smoother experience for us few weirdos enjoying it

keep up the great work crate and thanks everyone for reading it.

Making retaliation builds work with ranged requires some creativity i’d say keep looking and the answers lie in the game.

The answer lies in SotH?

Nope, it took me a while to realize it myself.

And SoTH never impressed me on non-Lightning (i am a fan of the proc). I used it and Light of Empyrion on my Battlemage and it didn’t work well

Well, I don’t know then. Ulzuin’s Wraith?
