SC Reaper, looking for some input

Hello everyone,

It is my first character in a while, been through ultimate, cleared the edge of reality (altough it was damn difficult …) and now I’m looking forward to tackle the nemesis and the beast roguelike.

But, I don’t know if my build is aiming in the right direction. I think it’s okay, but if anyone has any input, be it about devotions or skills themselves, I’ll be happy to hear it.

It’s a DW Vitality/cold oriented build. Classic sort of.

I don’t really know much about end game gear, therefore what I should aim for. I’ve seen that there are some items that gives +1 to all skill to specific classes. If you know about some good legendary, let me know :).

I don’t really have any difficulty, except for bosses like the Mad Queen, which I have yet to defeat, or the bosses of Bastion of chaos and the beast roguelike (defeated, but only by hit and run, their shotgun abilities hit me quite hard).

Here’s the build : https://www.grimtools.com/calc/4NOlK0K2

Thanks for reading me :).

  • You don’t have any sources of flat resist reduction, so you should consider incorporating Manticore into your devotions.
  • Both your OA and DA are VERY low for your current level. You should have at least 2400 on each at this point in the game. You need to fix your augments and components. Use Survivor’s Ingenuity on your Rings/Amulet, and Runebound Topaz on your rings.
  • You’re spreading yourself too thin by going for both vitality and cold damage. You should focus on just one damage type, I’d recommend Vitality (because that’s what your resist reduction is geared towards)
  • If you put augments on your armor you should be able to max all your resists and swap your components/skills around freely.
  • You don’t have any sources of +skills. These can really help round out your build so I’d recommend getting some.
  • Max Shadow Dance instead of Elemental Awakening

There’s a lot more to be said, but it seems you don’t have gear to twink to this character, so you’ll have to fumble your way through things until you get better items.

Hello, ty for the answer.

-Is it really worth it giving that much points just to get Acid spray from manticore ? I’d have to give up on Ulcama’s scales for that. (I say that but I’m sure someone will tell me I’ve wasted my points already ^^).

-About OA/DA, I’m trying, hadn’t had much luck yet with my drops.

-I’m trying to go more for vitality as items come actually yeah.

-I must admit I have been lazy on augments ^^ didn’t give much thought about it. I’ll look into them and see what I can do to rectify my behavior first ^^.

-About the Runebound topaz, I can’t see the appeal in it. How would that help ? I don’t fully understand the game yet so I may miss something in the provided stats.

-Is Elemental Awakening bad or Shadow Dance really better to a melee ? I know we take a lot of physical damage but, isn’t 30% through the talent worthwile ?

And yes, I’m still trying to collect gear, hoarding them and looking for better itemization overall.

Unless you can find an item which gives you flat resist reduction, yes. Pretty much every build needs a source of flat resist reduction. Resist reduction is one of the most important stats. You can think of it as +% total damage, because that’s effectively what it does.

Survivor’s Ingenuity can be bought from Devil’s Crossing at Revered Reputation, Runebound Topaz is a craftable component which requires Ugdenbloom and some other components (Amber and Radiant Gem iirc). Prioritize farming for these.

(another option for DA is Ravager’s Eye, which is a weapon augment you can buy from Barrowholm at Revered Reputation)

Good. Your skills should reflect this as well. Don’t invest in skills that give +% elemental, frostburn, or cold damage or -% cold resistance to enemies.

Augments are super important once you start reaching endgame content. You can get 112 resistances or more from armor augments alone.

Runebound Topaz gives +52DA. DA reduces the chance of enemies hitting you, the chance of enemies critting you, and the amount of damage crits deal. Achieving 2700 DA means most enemies won’t be able to crit you at all, and ~3000 effective DA means no Nemesis or Superboss will be able to crit you. Crits kill - avoiding them is key to survival. Look up the builds recently posted by the chinese GD community which run 5000-6000DA.

You can get elemental resistance from any number of other sources (gear, devotions, components, augments). Chance to avoid melee/projectile attacks is much harder to get, and +DA is what your build desperately needs right now.

Finding gear is the biggest challenge in GD. Once you hit level 100 and feel confident that your build can clear all main campaign content find some friends online to play Gladiator Crucible with. Your buffs/debuffs will stack so you can clear it effectively, and you’ll all get lots of gear. You can trade between yourselves to get the gear you want for your character. With a group of 3-4 (or more) players and 20+ crucible clears it should be pretty doable to get your character geared at least decently. You’ll also end up with a ton of gear to twink to other characters (if you get bored grinding crucible, just make a new character or two and level them to 100, choosing a build to aim for based on the gear you’ve found)

Thanks a lot for your answers, most of those cost me my 2 arms (the topaz actually …) but I have a lot of things to think about now. I’ve traded Ulcama’s scale for Acid Spray, and since I had 1 point left, put it into Ulo (+10% elem res) for the time being.
I’ll see how it fare now.

Now, most of my work will be to find gear and try to buff up my OA/DA, but as I said, havn’t had much luck yet ^^.

I don’t have the crucible, and I don’t think I’ll be getting it, that kind of gameplay really is not my cup of tea.

Anyway, thanks again for you answers !
