Secondary class for arcanist?

Hello sir,

I started GD like 5 days ago. I am currently playing level 40 arcanist. I haven’t chosen a secondary class yet and currently leveling with OFF + sky shard. I asked for a build/help in discord chat and someone made this build for me.

Current: grimcalc.com/build/D2PpkBn
Endgame level 85 with devotions: grimcalc.com/build/N49kTWF

However, I am not sure about secondary class. In discord, people said soldier is easier.

What do you guys think about this end game tree and devotion points? And is there any other build/guide for arcanists which doesn’t require specific items? This is my first character so i won’t have important items for a long time.

Lastly, can you guys write what are differences on secondary classes for arcanist? Or if there is a guide, can you please link me to it?

Thanks and have a good day.

So-so.

Any caster is very dependant on specific items that improve your main damaging skill. Some casters are easier to gear up, some are harder. Don’t know about Sky Shard users though.

Hardly, because within the certain class combo there is no unity on how this class is played. E.g. your spellbreaker uses nightblade purely for -%cold resistance reduction and heal, my spellbreaker is a dual-wielder that uses arcanist for OFF and utility stuff like Mirror of Ereoctes, and my devotion setup is very different. Someone else may play a Spellbreaker with Phantasmal Blades.

Imo, the class that synergizes best with TSS/OFF arcanist is a Shaman (Wind Devil, Mogdrogen Pact, possibly Storm Totem). But making your first character a TSS caster is doing it the hard way.

Thanks for your reply. I think i need a huge research for each class.
Also i guess i will just go with this build.

If you think this build is so-so, what would you change to make it better?

Playing only with CD skills without anything to spawn sure is difficult…

Above everything else - I would switch to Arcanist+Shaman like I mentioned before.

Something like this. Beware though, it’s just a very rough draft I did based on my recollection of how I wanted my TSS druid to be. I never played this build past normal. But shouldn’t be too bad, at least not worse than the one discord experts had suggested to you (seriously, don’t trust random people, even if they sound convincing and have hundreds of posts on a forum :undecided:).
As for devotions - sorry, too lazy to plot them out, but pretty sure mine won’t include spider or ulo. Actually, Hourglasses are currently in trend for cooldown-based builds, since it allows to do an insane damage as any cooldown-based caster. :undecided:

It’s not about difficulty. There was a thread when some guy whined that he couldn’t kill a benchmark boss faster than 1 minute with TSS only (here it is), and he claims that he learned to aim it better. Best builds tear this boss apart in 20 seconds or faster.

I’m not questioning TSS, but the choice to use a “rotation” caster as a first char. I personally find those type of builds “difficult” to play with, but only in the sense that they require some skills and some decent understanding of the game as a whole.

Or perhaps i just suck with casters builds…
