Set this commando straight! (Build advice)

Hey guys I need help/critism on this build I have theorycrafted.

I initially wanted to go sword & board with melee and grenados as main for damage and retaliation as secondary damage. I went for canister bombs for crowd control. I haven’t decided on devotions yet, only that anvil seems to be pretty solid for rusing into the heat of battle as this Commando is supposed to do.

The skill points seems to be spread a little thin and the melee damage is almost non existent thus far (lvl 38). Also, I worry that the build lacks more defensive/resistence skill points.

What are your thoughts?

As far as stats go, I’m thinking about dumping almost all in physique and a little in cunning and spirit.

1 point WarCry is useless.
1 point Markovian the same.
Cadence tree is questionable even when maxed, with your setup you are basically wasting 2/3 of your attacks.
You don’t have Field Command.
…etc etc etc.

A commandon should focus on melee/ranged/survivability, if you want a “spammer”, you should have completely ignored melee and gone sorceror>pyromancer>elementalist While maybe your idea will be effective enough against regular mobs (i’m talking about ultimate early areas, as idk how well this can perform in, es, BoC), you will fail big time against every boss in the game.

I was wondering if tossing melee skill all together and substituting it with full on grenado, retaliation and defense.

But you pretty much confirmed my worries. The build is “all over the place”.

Would you say that commando sword & board wouldn’t be viable for ultimate the way i intend to play it?

Retaliation to be effective require a dedicated setup (see the thread that is atm just below yours to get some ideas), but Vindicative Flames alone can do something similar (yet way less effective) while improving other areas of your build at the same time.

I never tried a Commando that don’t focus on melee/ranged (or both at the same time), so i cannot say if tossing melee altogether is a good idea. At least I can see some synergies between some attacking skills and some passive/debuffing skills, but “on paper” a proper Firestrike 1handed/shield, 2handed ranged/melee or a dw pistols build still seem to be the (vastly) superior choice.

I would modify it to something like this. Back in the day the “Concussive Bomb” transmuter was a no-brainer. I never pick it now because Flashbang is your best CC ability. Also Canister Bomb is great for devotion procs and re-applying those procs.

Attach it to Assassin’s Mark or Eldritch Fire and you’ve got a pretty consistent resist reduction tool. Which can be re-applied if UC procs.

You should never take “Skyfire Grenado”. It doesn’t add that much damage and it’s more mana consuming for a Commando (who lacks the mana).

Finally unless you’re consistently weapon swapping taking both Oleron’s Rage and Menhir’s Bulwark is a complete waste. You should probably take Menhir’s Bulwark and go sword+board. You may want to get rid of cadence for fire strike as well.

I agree, cadance is a waste of time, and firestrike synergises better with this build.

I’ve been listening to you guys comments and redone the commando build.
The direction is more clear and we’ll see how it will work out in ultimate when I get there.
