Shar'Zul's damage is out of hand

I think it was 1.0.0.7 where something about the damage formula was changed, remember how many reports there were about damage spikes at its release?

Some bosses are outrageous now, most notably the guy in the title.
So I tested how hard he actually hits in BoC and made a short video.

My char:

13k HP
38% Fire Res overcapped (72% res after his reduction)
12% Phys. Res
~2500 DA
~1900 Armor

As far as I know he only does Phys, Fire and Burning damage, correct me if I’m wrong about that.
But even with the above stats, he hit me for 10-11k damage in the span of one second. Repeatedly, not just a fluke.
Chars that don’t have 2500 DA or this kind of overcap (which most don’t have) outright die without time to react. That’s not good.

I was always wondering why wave 149 in Crucible (and the one at 80-90) made me run like a little girl, but there you have it.
This guy and some other bosses need to have their damage looked at, because they shouldn’t hit that hard against these stats.[b]

did you take those 10-11k hits when you stood in his flame tornado thingies? they debuff you. even then. Besides maxed out fire, you also need chaos resist.

All my characters face tank him. Then I run a circle around the area when he has about 40% left. Charge in and finish him off. Even most of my casters can stay in his face. They rarely have above 1900-2000 DA either btw. Even when testing this patch I could face tank Sharzul. So not sure where your problem stems from.

As far as know those 11K 1-2 hits that Shar’zul does with a cleaving motion from side to side (fire cleave) does MASSIVE physical damage. There is the problem.

Rest is fire, burn, some lightning and some chaos is he has Obsidian axe or more fire if he spawns with incinerator or worldeater

Wait wasn’t enemy physical damage reduced? Or was it “slightly” reduced?

Anyways, to add to this you can take those two axe swipes w/o dying. That burn DoT really hurts even with overcapped resistances

^

More like they did nothing. Seriously, the physical attacks from enemies in Ultimate still deal as much damage as in the previous version. Seems slightly was in as 0000000000000,1% less physical damage.

Well they did do it slightly. Not much, just slightly

But seriously anyone facing Shar’Zul- watch out for that Burn DoT, it’s not the damage alone it’s also the duration. Your HP won’t drop like water but if swings his axe at you during the DoT it is gg for badly built characters and “oh-shit” moment for good characters

You had your resists reduced, then took one of his strongest attacks.

Shar’zul wasn’t buffed.

Reports of damage spikes were in regards to undead, which were buffed, and they are getting looked at.

Wait aren’t damage spikes intended?

depends how big the spike. if the spike shotguns HC chars out of nowhere without a warning…that’s a no-no

Oh, i always found them to be a nice challenge

But yeah it sucks for HC players :undecided:

That double cleave attack can hurt like hell if it connects in a bad time… Maybe it should get a small delay, so that squishy characters can predict it and avoid it?

Nah it’s perfectly slow enough that you can avoid it (i dodge with chars with low move speed)

The only Shar’Zul who delivered it fast enough spawned with “of Fury” cleaver

Please don’t nerf this guy he’s the final boss of a Challenge dungeon of the strongest race in the entire lore.
If anything needs to be looked at it is Van Aldrtich Heal - pure retaliation can’t kill him and you need to go Hybrid to kill him.

Just did a testrun. Can facetank him as usual, nothing’s changed, as Zantai already confirmed.

A split second is hardly “perfectly slow enough”, especially when you’re using a melee LMB skill. It’s not like adding another split second delay to his cleave would make him “lol too easy”.

good to see the harbinger of chaos living up to his name:rolleyes:

seriously he is one hard hitting slith… now i cant imagine what the Void’s Edge has in store for us and what more monsters await us there:eek:

that 1 extra second…doesn’t sound much. but we can already see his attack coming in and move out of the way. with that extra second we can pretty much avoid most, if not all, of his attacks. resulting in too easy.

He is the most enjoyable boss fight in the game. He kills you cause he is strong as hell not cause he uses some cheap last moment heal or some shitty “touch-me-not” aura or because he is a damage sponge.

This guy seems fine to me, he is the final boss of an end-game dungeon. So i think players should learn to be prepared and be more careful.

Again it’s just my opinion, do whatever is necessary cause i don’t want HC players dying unfair deaths but please keep the fight challenging. Shar’Zul is the only reason why i run BoC despite knowing that I might loose the key due to game crash (R.I.P FPS, shitty PC)

This is what i am afraid of.

Highly doubt it that giving a half second delay to his attack would make it so easy as you guys are describing, and if you could avoid his whole attack, the better, especially if you’re squishy, right?

Tanky builds would still eat the whole attack as usual, so it’s better than nerfing the damage of his attack, trivializing it for all builds in general, if you ask me… anyways, this is just an idea to improve the survivality of these builds. For me Shar’Zul is ok as it is.

Ive did a testrun and havent notticed any changes of dmg form Zully. MB he spawned with some nasty weapon afix/suffix like Fabius do ?

I believe in nerf Shar’Zul is not nessessary, he is (as already mentioned Chthon) the final boss of difficult dungeons, and it shouldn’t be easy.

Yes, it deals many (admittedly, very many) of damage for this double stroke of the axe, he is the type of bosses that know how to cut your resists in twice, his vortices reduce your accuracy, etc.

But that’s what makes the fight with him attractive, they (together with Muusy) is really similar to the bosses - huge, big, angry, dealing a lot of damage and have a different abilities. More interesting to fight them.
