i agree. Shar’Zul is the only rogue like boss i’ve yet to try in Ultimate, but i often struggle to kill the Valbury’s Counsellors with builds with low DPS (when i say i struggle it’s i just can’t kill them :o). Having a boss fight favorizing glass cannons is ok, but the sphere+heal cooldown looks a little short to me.
Looking closer at it, it seems to be his projectile attack that debuffs you, at least you get the broken shield icon over your head right after he uses it.
I always thought it was his tornados that lowered your resists, weird.
Good point about the Chaos res, I forgot that the Obsidian axes have a good chunk of it.
I had 48 Chaos res after reduction, which is admittedly less than ideal.
Just to be sure about your definition of ‘facetanking,’ does that mean you’re just holding your mouse button on him without moving?
I’m convinced there is no way I can do that, the damage taken is too high. Every time I go near him I feel like I’m within instant-kill reach after a couple seconds.
So if you can do it with less sturdy chars and literally all of them, there must be something I’m missing. Surely they can’t all have massively overcapped Fire and Chaos res?
And to put things in perspective, I’m not just bringing this up because I want something nerfed because I can’t beat it.
This same char has beaten Gladiator with extra spawns and has a fairly good success ratio, but every time I think that wave 149 is much harder than anything else if it spawns with a bad boss combo.
I felt the same with a few other characters that can get to and/or farm Glad, that was the main reason why I made this thread.
I don’t think he should be a pushover, but it doesn’t feel right that a single boss can seemingly be more of a threat than 2 nemeses at once.
Yes, his projectile attack (or his tornado?) reduces your resists and then his double swing + auxiliary damage does 10-12k at once.
But as other users have said they can tank him no prob, I’m not sure where I go wrong.
I never really tried to dodge his attacks though, outside of the usual hit and run, because his attacks seemed too fast at a glance to fall within the ‘telegraph, danger’ category.
Looking at the video (so it was good for something), next time I’ll try to watch better for his animations.
As for damage spike, I meant the changes in 1.0.0.7, where the difficulty was evidently ramped up significantly compared to before.
Shar’zul is as deadly has he always been, everything you show in your vids seems ok.
Your definition is correct, you can try Oleron’s blood or warcry to shred his total damage, help a lot, or you can just play Spellbreaker:

Much better than Rashalga, Van Aldritch or Mogdrogen. Shitty summons, stupid skills saving their ass.
Shar’Zul is the best boss. He kills you or you kill him, no bullshit
As a vitality/chaos conjurer, he is really easy for me since vit/chaos and some fire resistance are abundant in items/skills/devotions. In addition %12 phy res from aspect of guardian, i literally am perfect geared for him. (Of course for alkamos, i am worst probably =) )
