So, my son wants to be a youtuber....

splitting ? why would you want that? its pointless and only causes increased encoding which affects cpu usage and requires more storage space. stuff you don’t want. if you’re going to edit footage anyway then stuff will be cut in fragments in the editing software not in recording software.

also if you change output recording to mp4 you can upload it straight to youtube without editing. but that requires experience in how to present yourself and your stuff without too many “uhms” and other little things. I stopped editing a long time ago. Takes less time to prepare what you want to say during the video and prepare what you want too show anyway.

Another vote for OBS, it’s free with no strings attached, AFAIK.
Many of those other free options mentioned in the thread have some kinda ugly watermark or other limits (recording time, resolution, etc.).

I’m not a streamer but I record YT videos sometimes, and it’s perfect for that purpose.

@OP: you’re a cool dad btw, for doing this.

So I guess that’s a no?

No idea what the purpose of this is. Can’t you split a video using just about any video editor?

well, this project just got sidebarred. I either have a bad GPU, or something else horribly wrong with my rig…chrome is blowing out my video drivers, and I have a crap-ton of failed video hardware notifications. I’ll be calling PNY tomorrow, hopefully.

No idea what your PC specifications are. You do indeed need at least an i5 processor running at 3.5ghz or higher. In case of Minecraft, and how big the generated environment is…you might even need a more powerful processor. This is because the game uses a lot of calculations the bigger the world gets.

Graphics wise Minecraft requires reasonably little.

Make sure to have at least 12gb RAM if you want to run the game, windows + recording software. With 16gb RAM I often use 70-90% of that. Windows 8-10 easily use 3-4 gb by themselves, then 3-4gb for the recording. rest goes to the game.

Have 1 hard drive that runs the game and another hard drive to record on. If you use 1 hard drive it’ll have to read + write at the same time and cause “lag” in both the game and recording.

I used OBS in the past, but never managed to make it work without too much lag (even by decreasing the quality settings). However it is free, and that’s definitely a plus.
I have been using Action! by Mirilis as well: it’s not that expensive and being on a laptop, I was able to configure it so the integrated GPU handles all the recording, with 0 hits on the performances.

After the recording and editing, I think it’s important to think about the SEO side of things  It’s such a shame to put a lot of effort into filming and post-production, but forget about a few simple things like keywords and metadata :undecided: I’d give this a quick read and hopefully it helps the ranking of the videos
