If this is your first attempt at the quest then the logical explanation is that you accidentally sold it at some point
could it be there’s more than just the evil image? it seems to hint a location and there’s a 1 shot chest there. and darn… lokarr is super hard … i’m wondering why crate make super bosses really that hard.

Long story short, get the spirit guide’s amulet first.
This quest and its finale are the pinnacle of what is wrong with this potentially awesome game. In the words of Dr. Ian Malcom Crate was “so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” You have to jump through a thousand asinine obscure hoops and do all kinds of crazy crap to then kite a boss for 10 minutes for him to drop 1 random piece of a set used only for alts regardless of how many people in party… Then you open the “treasure” chests and get 1 legendary and 2 epic items that are for the most uselessly random class combination possible. I understand wanting to do something different and thinking outside the box… but lets try to keep it in the ballpark.
Builds with enough survivability and enough sustain can kill him without troubles. Major tip: you need 80+40% fire and lightning resistances overcap, at least 3300 DA and healing abilities to counterpart his health-reduction attacks.
We killed him multiple times, we just have to kite him around while pets burn him down slowly… anyways.
Serious question, why would I go over cap for resistances? unless you add +max resistance whats the point of going over cap?
Resistances over the cap are taken into account when an enemy reduces our resistances. Lokarr can reduce your resist by a flat 40, so having like 40% overcapped fire resist it reduces your fire resist to 80%. This way you won’t take an huge amount of damage due to your resists being below 80%.
Also, obscure assinine hoops? The quest is supposed to be cryptic as shit. That’s intentional. It’s a secret quest that breaks the fourth wall. If anything, this quest is kind of obvious. The only cryptic thing is the blue zombie that spawns in a random location in Malmouth Outskirts. Everything else is easy to decipher.
Last, if it takes you 10 minutes to kill him, there’s seriously something wrong with your build. And “we”, you mean in a group with other people? It takes most of my characters like a minute or less to kill him solo.
To add to what Norzan said - I think mathematically, every % lost via resist reduction to you that isn’t counteracted means you take 5% more damage, I.e. going from 80% Fire resistance to 40% means you take 3 times as much Fire damage or +200%.
Two players using found gear with only roughly 3.75 days played… if only we didn’t have a jobs and family lives to worry about we could have farmed ultimate even more in a pathetic attempt to get loot that is either trash or requires a new character… easy to decipher… yeah with more time than it took me to get a degree… riiiight
You’ll get over it. It’s optional secret quests, meant for people that want to put in the time. Try not to act like you’re the only ones around that work and have kids.

Implying that you can’t do that if you have a job and a family to care about. Oh wait, i also have that and i can still get gear in a reasonable time frame.
Lokarr is also a superboss, it’s not meant to be taken on by average gear, even in party.

You are complaining about super secret boss being hard to fight with after just 4 days of farming gear, seriously? It’s an arpg, you put in time to get better gear, that’s the whole point of the game.
But, let’s just be constructive here.
Post your build and your friend’s build. Even with shitty gear it’s much easier to tackle difficult content in multiplayer since this game is not balance for it. I will try and help you tune your builds so you can destroy Lokkar and everything else while playing together.
