I played this with my Steam controller some time ago and even made a profile that I was happy with. Went to play some more today only to discover that importing steam config profiles seems to no longer work. I have to enable non-steam gamepad support to make my steam gamepad work and don’t know why. I’ve changed all the options in steam shown here and it doesn’t seem to matter. I remember this working pretty well out of the box and only needing minor tweaks for things like making health pots easier to reach
What happened, did an update break this support and then it was never fixed or something? That seems like a stretch, so I figure it’s something on my end, but don’t know what
Any sort of controller mapping or response issues I’ve ever had were due to me starting the game up before I insert my controller. Even then, exiting the game and starting up again fixes the issue for me. There is often a Steam pop-up on the lower right of the screen saying that the controller profile for your username was successfully imported. Also, if you have a mouse that moves easily, the game gets confused between your mouse inputs and your controller inputs.
Are you using the wireless dongle to connect to your set-up or are you using a wired set-up? I’ve had my wireless dongle wear out after 3 years of use, so see if your steam controller works well with anything else you use it before trying out my suggestions.
Best I can say is make sure there’s no rapid mouse movements from your mouse being on an uneven surface, make sure your steam controller is inserted and fully operational before you start the game, and a simple exit to desktop and restarting the game should import your profile just fine. Best of luck getting the issue fixed.
