Stopping upgrade to 1.0.0.8 (Steam)

I would like to continue to play 1.0.0.7 as I have no interest in the changes made by 1.0.0.8 and I’m sick and tired of the constantly shifting goalposts! The game is an offline game, but I cannot start the game without it trying to download the new patch. How do I start the game in offline mode?

Upper-left of Steam drop down menus. Click and read?

Unfortunately that’s just the way Steam does updates tho. All you can do is go into GD properties in the Steam library and set it to not download until you attempt to start the game.

Get a DRM free copy.

Yeah I play offline now , turned it off on Steam over a week ago just in case , have no intention of going back online anytime soon .
Not reading good things right now for my builds and as a self found player 99.9 % of the time , now 100% , I think it stinks , over 700 hours and game is difficult enough with the crappy drops , said it before , I have found 0 to 1 set drop for my builds , so they are not overly geared and it’s a pita trying to gear them up , then finding that your builds are now way underperforming teamed with the crap drops , then no way am I updating the game .

I don’t use mods etc , so again people who do use mods can just tweak their chars and not even feel the benefits / non benefits of the patch . I just can’t understand why it is such an heavy handed patch when you can use mods/cheats/hacks , lol :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll give it a couple of weeks to all settle down and see what the majority think , excluding fanboys , then that will make my decision up on whether to update and hang on for the expansion , or just look at other games .

This is part of the GOG version’s advantage. You don’t need a client, and even with the GOG client, it won’t enforce updates. AFAIK it actually offers an update rollback option too. AFAIK, with Steam you’re just stuck with it. Maybe D/C from the internet and try to launch it, but that’s my only suggestion

Not sure why you do not understand balancing a game.

The only way to keep Steam from updating is putting it in offline mode I believe.

All these whiners probably didn’t even played the game after new patch yet… some are whining about nerfs on gear pieces that they didn’t even dropped yet… it’s hilarious watching these little kids throwing a tantrum over nothing.

I find comments like these very childish. I mean who are you, me or anyone else to say someone what they should or should not enjoy/like? Isn’t the point of gaming passing some time and having fun?

I for one would like to go back to version 1.0.0.7, mainly because i don’t like the nerfs (skill/devotion) to my character. Character which i started a long time ago (only have time to play 2hrs/week) and which i really liked and enjoyed alot, not so much now. Since i always play single player games, there’s no harm to anyone liking previous versions more.

edit: and this is coming from 35 years old kid

Doesn’t change the fact that they’re abunch of whiners… if you want to do so, it’s your loss… have fun being stuck in the past, just because you’re too dumb to adapt to changes. And yes, if you’re bitching about the nerfs wihtout even trying it first, your opinion isn’t worth shit.

Crate is working to bring you the best possible game they can.

If you choose to unplug to stop updates, then fine. No need to make a thread about it. It cannot lead to a productive discussion, I fear.

Thread reopened in hopes that somebody can provide a definitive answer to the OP. Any posts that are not instructions how to keep Steam GD on 1.0.0.7 or specifying that this is in fact not possible, will be deleted. Opinions on the subject are Off Topic in my opinion.

  1. There is a Steam offline mode.
  2. You may be able to run Grim Dawn directly without Steam running. Not 100% sure, though, it depends on whether the game forces it or not. Since there is a non-DRM version it is likely that you can run the Steam version without Steam.
