What is driving up the cost of expanding the storage? It was 50000 to start now the price is 100000. Was it in the update or does level or quality of items in stash drive the price up?

That’s always been the cost. 50k for the first one, 100k for the second one, 150k for the third one.
I never bought the first one. The price at first was 50000 but it has gone up to 100000.
Unless its based on the number of expanded inventories you have across all characters. I did get a second bag on the other character, the field inventory.
