I’m not sure if this is a bug or working as designed, but I expected when I unchecked an item in a storage facility that I’m telling the game to not store this resource here and to try to move the stock to a new location if available. No addition items are put in there as expected, but they aren’t removed when unchecked.
No, it just means no new items will be put in there. Ones that are already there will stay until they’re used or spoil.
That’s the behavior I observed. So as a design decision, I don’t agree with it. The implication by unchecking it is that since I don’t want the resource to be in that storage that it should then be moved to an alternate location if available. There could be a question on that last point that if an alternate wasn’t available then it was just dumped on the ground and left. Unchecking the box is also a way of freeing up space in the storage for other things if the uncheck item is to be relocated.
There should be a button in the details UI window when inspecting any storage building that you can click to force laborers to empty this storage building completely. Since a storage building can only be moved when it is empty, we need a way to intentionally empty it.
I agree that there should be an mechanism that some items are forced to be removed from storage. For example I now got gold ingots spread around my town while I want them to be moved to the armory.
I’m pretty sure that you can relocate the storage buildings with everything inside just fine, you just won’t be able to access the resources while unbuilding/rebuilding
The button was greyed-out for me on a storage building that had stuff stored inside. This was a root cellar specifically. I moved another empty root cellar without issue so I assumed this was the difference.
(Of course, I could just be misremembering and/or wrong altogether)
Just tested with a root cellar, you can relocate with all resources just fine, try it out!
