I don’t know if the following is a bug or if this is a game enhancement suggestion, so I’ll post this and moderator can place it in the proper forum category, please.
I ended up having gold stocked up in a couple storage buildings when I realized I hadn’t yet built a bank vault. Once I finally built the vault I wanted to move the gold from the storage buildings into it. I clicked each of the storage buildings and unchecked the box for gold ingots. I assumed by doing so this would indicate to the game that I no longer wanted gold stored there and the game would know to move the gold in these buildings to the only building left it could be stored in = the vault. After the letting the game run for over a year, none of the gold in either of my storage buildings emptied, none was moved to the vault.
So I guess my question is, is that now the game is supposed to work by unchecking a commodity that’s currently sitting storage? If not, can the game be changed so it works that way? The only way I could get the gold ingots moved from my storage buildings was to have all gold I had at the time moved to the Trading Post building.
Also, can we have the ability to click on any commodity and be able to set how much of each we want stored there in a particular storage building? Would be nice to have better control of resource management.
Edit to the above paragraph: How about for each production building, when you click on it, there is an option to select which storage facility you want to send the resources too?
My understanding (from what I have read and not testing personally) is that the unchecked product will stay there until used. It won’t be refilled, but it won’t be moved unless used.
Just for gold, could you maybe move all the gold to the trading post and then move them back into global storage and then it would go into the vault as that is the only thing that will store gold? If it works it is a bit clunky until the devs hopefully come up with a better solution. Actually this may work for all other resources as well.
If you salvage said building they will move the stuff. It’s a piss poor work around but this is still early access and more stuff will be added to the game later. Or Like Rhygar said transfer all your gold to the traders and see if that will pull it out of the storage ( never worked for me ).
The reason it become a concern for me is in the course of developing my town I had a storage building outside the walls that had gold stored in it. Obvious magnet for raiders. I wanted to leave the storage place there as it was in a central location for the farms and product builds around it, but I didn’t realize gold was being put in it.
Needless to say, I wanted to just move the gold out of the building, but that ended up being more of a hassle than it should have been.
It would be nice if we could get the trading post staff to run stock control/relocation whenever a trader isn’t in town, that way they wouldn’t be sat on their hands for 8-9 months out of the year.
Maybe the foragers could chip in during the winter months when they have nothing to do as well.
The ability to rename different storage houses would be ideal and each one could employ a villager as stockeeper, that way any shop worker could drop their goods off in the nearest storage and then the stockeeper could transfer it to the storage where it’s supposed to be.
For those that like to micro-manage, they could give us the option (in the storage house’s menu) to transfer goods to certain other storage facilities. Again, we’d need to be able to rename the buildings but then we could use a UI much like the ‘Where shall we send this cattle’ UI and the wagoneers from the wagon shop could transfer goods whilst on their travels.
Agreed. End Zone A World Apart game has “logistics” people that do that very thing. They are dedicated to moving goods around the map to where they are needed so the people working in the production buildings don’t have to stop working, except for illness, eat, drink, pleasure, rest or death. The only time a person working in a production building has to move goods around themselves is if you don’t have any logistics people.
Agreed, I have the same issue with gold, also with Iron and Stones I’m extracting from far away.
My goods are being stored far away my city and when I need it, my builder need to go there and pickup small quantities every time. It would be better if I could move a large quantity to my city at once with wagons.
