A new NPC available in towns called the Spirit Binder. She will offer to bind the shards of spirits found in the unique monster infrequent items to your soul, giving you their powers. You may only bind one Weapon/offhand, 1 armor, and 1 accessory. You must bring the item to her, and it will be destroyed in the process. The only bonus given will be the unique bonus.
This is the Korvaak’s Burning Blade, and if you bind it you will get -1 Second Recharge to Raise Skeletons, +2 Summons to Raise Skeletons, and the Pet Bonus of %Physical converted to Fire.
I believe this would open up a lot more builds to have fun with, and make players a little bit stronger, but would be an overall excellent addition to the game.
So pretty much like Kanai’s Cube from D3 then. Assuming it’s even possible, would probably take a bit of re-balancing around the characters getting such a big boost to power, maybe not though.
Yeah of course, some of the abilites would need a bit of change if they were to be too powerful. There’s a lot of times where I’m like I really want to use this monster infrequent cause it has a cool ability, but it’s just so bad.
But I don’t. At least now. It would increase power creep in Grim at this stage. Would need to be there from the start. Maybe in Grim 2 if it comes out.
I agree, really cool idea but for where we are right now with the devs winding down their work on GD, something like this I would imagine to be a big undertaking and very time consuming due to the balancing issues that could arise from certain class combinations and certain “spirit bound” unique bonuses.
When the decision is do you want a cat or a dog, yes. But with a lot of mi items its like choosing between a penny and a hundred dollar bill, the mi being the penny. They have a cool ability but the item stats are just garbage
I don’t agree with that at all and I don’t think most people do either… why else would builds tout “no greens”? MIs have huge potential. With the new update they are easier to find good ones. I think MIs are in a great state right now and if anything is holding them back it would be that they conflict with set bonuses but I don’t think Kanai’s cube is the right way to go about fixing that.
That is completely untrue, there are some MIs with great base stats. The Nemesis shoulders and pants are a case for that, and there are several other MIs with great base stats.
Well, I mean, I did provide an example in the initial post and thought going through and testing them all myself to point out each one that was lacking would just delude from the idea.
While I would love to see something like this ingame, problem is that as others have said, it will introduce power creep and everything will need to be rebalanced.
Though it would be hilarious to have a Salazar’s Harbinger on every pet build
No-green is only a simpler way to present a build. However if a player farms in crucible or SR with such a no-green build, it is very unlikely they would not have a single decent copy of a Nemesis shoulder/pant. Decent meaning two useful affix, not double rare.
The entire point is the mods like that which are only on monster infrequent items are underwhelming because the other stats of the monster infrequent items aren’t as good as or better than regular items and there’s no reason to use them because they replace a critical piece of gear. This one specifically from the cultists in Forgotten Gods.
Already explained to you why MIs have less base stats than regular items. The other thing with MI is that it allows more flexibility with damage types because it can have any damage affix.
They also enable builds through conversion mods (most of them having unique conversions like lightning Doom Bolt) or greatly support builds with mods to toggled or healing buffs.
