So, as for now, Fang of Ch’thon is primarily used as a caster weapon. But, that pierce to chaos conversion and that + to a Nightblade skill clearly indicate, that this weapon is also supposed to be somehow used for melee (probably will be BiS for that new chaos-auto-attack set that Zantai introduced in one of the FG streams). Not having attack speed on a melee weapon is simply strange.
The second thing a want to talk about is that +3 to Anatomy of Murder. I get that the +% to humans is good and all, but Fang of Ch’thon is a chaos weapon, when used in melee, because of it’s base chaos damage. The Anatomy of Murder doesn’t support chaos damage in any way. I think something like + to the Dual Blades will be much better, because of the conversion that the Fang provides.
Fang is already pretty ridiculous for a chaos weapon, adding attack speed is going to trivialize other options unless they’re loaded with mindwarp tier goodies or better.
With 20% RR being present on the weapon it seems to be a given that at least one will be used for DW unless even more potent gear arrives to displace it. For Witch Hunter the +1 occultist, +1 possession amounts to at least 15 global flat damage and the pierce conversion should bring in upwards of another flat 30 (again global). Using two, the RR won’t stack but you’re reaching ever higher up on overcaps for Solael’s Witchfire and Possession. A pair of daggers effectively read with 90+ flat damage on their stat lines for WH.
Looking at currently existing options
Demonic Bloodlord’s Blade of (Alacrity/the Cabal/Solael’s Malice/the Abyss) brings (at least) +1 more Possession, no adcth, varying global damage contribution, and either less attack speed or less % chaos and damage. For the average player this isn’t even a comparison because of the high rarity of rolls demanded in most given cases. Just roll 2x Myth Fangs and play.
Grim Fate and Pagar’s Betrayal lack attack speed and flat damage, they’re not designed as auto attack weapons.
Servitor’s Corruptor occupies its niche as a 1 of with good rolls for chaos Cadence DW.
Blade of the Black Flame is a casting dagger.
Bloodsworn Scepter has a similar issue to Bloodlord’s Blade, though its conversion places it somewhat more favorably. Still, the lower base attack speed is going to make the addition of AS to fang a no contest between the two.
Spark of Reality lacks a compelling reason for inclusion, both now and with the spoiled chaos AA granting set. Necromancer and Arcanist provide few benefits for a chaos auto build (no RR, fewer WPS vs. nightblade).
I’ll emphasize the “going to” part of my prior comment and the hypothetical state of what gear is to come because currently there just isn’t anything competing with Fang from a standpoint of legendaries and the roll requirement to even begin to compare MIs for non cadence builds is well beyond the average player’s interest. If new chaos weapons arrive, Fang with attack speed on it sets the bar rather high for entry. I wouldn’t say it’s overly unhealthy for the game given that chaos melee hardly has any representation as it is, just that putting almost every desirable stat on a 1hander in a way that stacks is setting it up as a probable slot hogger.
