Suggestions for new Environment and Underground Art Sets

I forgot to add this back when I first made the sewer thread. But, a couple of members added more feedback to strengthen the idea of the sewer system, and one of these pictures was presented in that thread.

If you have the chance, check my first post (in this thread) that has the link to my suggestion and see if some of the ideas I presented seems good from your point of view.

I second the suggestions for a railyard and shipyard.

The only things I can think to add at the moment, which aren’t anything terribly original, would be a mining operation and a factory (metalworks?) --evidence of the roots of industrial advancement.

I would like some coasty and foggy scenery like the ones in Norway. Fjords, with rocky marches, and high mountains. You could easily incorporate winter landscapes.

Here are some examples:

those bottom two pictures remind me of a visit to Scotland

First post (Kickstarter supporter), but I had to weight in on the discussion.

I’d love to see some underwater areas, or the northern polar region with ancient mountain fortresses (At the Mountains of Madness).

I like these ideas as well… my suggestion was going to be an abandoned factory setting, reminiscent of the industrial revolution factories…

Funny thing is, this could easily meld with the underground environment as well… steam tunnels, rusty pipes, pools of chemicals, slag, bodies of child workers thrown out with the rubbish, etc…

Way back on the TQ forums when medierra first asked about ideas for a setting for a new game, this was my suggestion  a Victorian era game set in the dark continent jungles… I still like it

Likes this idea as well, although Dishonored might steal some of this one…

Environment: What about typical American swamp? Well, I’m from the Czech republic but I really like creepy swamp from Left 4 Dead campaign called Swamp Fever. And rain forest (mentioned by JohnNamikaze) sounds good!

Underground: Abandoned mental asylum full of angry spirits and hungry zombies, which are imprisoned inside building from the living world by crazy undead director (=final boss to beat). There can be some side quests too, for example finding body remains of one good spirit which save your life from deadly trap or search of director’s journal for revealing the truth of this place (=disgusting experiments and torture on helpless pacients).

+++++++++++++++

Really like the industrial idea, some early industrial revolution factories with the grizzly work conditions and urban setting would be a good change of pace from the more open nature areas.

I like the idea of remnants of the old lost civilization that was crushed in the invasion/war.
how about this.

you find the sealed entrance to an old facility. once you manage to get it open you find at first a sterile military research facility. think the ordered, clean halls of a 20th/21st century lab/base but in victorian style. every thing looks abandoned, but then as you get further in you start to see that things may have gone a little wrong…

so you have a victorian era military research lab. this is not your typical messy unprofessional lab with things strewn about on tables everywhere. this is a clean, orderly environment for the purpose of studying/refining/weaponizing their understanding of science and magic in their world. also the facility was evacuated (mostly) at the start of the war and has sat sealed and undisturbed ever since.

this kind of underground zone could generate significant interest from certain factions…

I think many people have given great ideas already. My personal number 1 choice for this would be an ancient ruin, something very similar to the Tsakonian ruins in Titan Quest: Immortal Throne expansion, a ruin of some place that is long dead and is now taken over by vegetation. Perhaps it would even have a backstory of its own that’s tied in with the main story in the game. Maybe it’s the remains of a long dead civilization that the main antagonists in the game have ravaged already, etc.
Otherwise, I think anything that will be visually different to most other areas in the game will be great already.

Top Suggestion right here. Something like a dying tyrannid monster that is in the process of regeneration or perhaps a group of cultists is attempting to ressurect it? Of course it would have to look different and not be called a tyrannid due to copyright but you get the gist.

I am a big fan of stuff like that, and particularly so when the scenery tell the story of what happened on their own

We need more Swamps!

Seconding the ideas people are throwing for Railyards, Shipyards and Factories/Industrial areas.

Would like to see some sort of miniboss, or actual boss for that matter, like a train golem or something pulled together out of loose parts at any of the sites but using the setting do describe what it would be made of e.g. the shipyard golem having a naval cannon as an arm, the railyard golem spewing flames from the furnace in it’s chest and the factory golem just a mishmash of whatever was being made depending on lore attached to the place. All of this would need some sort of tie in with some sort of external power however due to animation and/or reanimation. mite b cool

As of now I work in a Inuit village in the Tundra and I love the shape of it. No Trees, smalls hills on sheer rock, lakes everywhere because of the permafrost and small arbust with berries everywhere. And right now winter is coming and we already got some snow.

So yeah, a Tundra environment of small hills would be great! And its not something you see often in games, as you only see the mountains like in Titan Quest and Diablo 2. That’s something I liked about Torchlight 2, the snow map was flat and had only hills.

hello ^^,

i would like to suggest something like a small island, which is only accessable thru a questline or something like that. It would be cool to collect some pieces of treasure map for the island and maybe a clue to how to get to that island in the first place.

something like in this picture maybe
oh i cant post pix hmmm …

ah well doesnt have to be a big island just a hero monster and a couple of trash mobs on it or a boss and then some hidden Treasure room or alike. That Treasure could hold some good old Rum which grants some buff that will only work in combination with the Pirate hat that the Hero would drop occasionally.
The Boss/Hero could look like a Medusa maybe or a cyclops and it would wear that pirate hat.

The effect of the Rum would be distorted view for i dont know 1-2 mins and if u wear the hat too you could then maybe do like 100% more dmg but also have slight problem with accuracy ^^.

i think that could be fun
yah i know TLDR and no pix but i cant post em i need 3 posts first hmm…

Could be great to have an Island ala King Kong with a giant monster on it who keep treasures from unfortunate travelers around in his cave.

Ok so I had a big ol’ post with a few of my own suggestions and I got timed out and lost it all, so I will summarize my two ideas in shorter form, probably for the best anyways

Area 1: Evil forest. We have a few forest settings already, but what I had in mind was a dark/low/no light forest. The trees are bare, twisted and corrupted. A low, dank mist covers the ground. and the trees bend when you walk past them, as if they are trying to strangle you.

Dungeon 1:graveyard in the evil woods, there are crypts and tombs, but the real evil comes from the grave keeper’s shack. There is a trap door that leads to an elaborate dungeon that houses a cult that participates in sacrifices to appease the gods that have caused the resent calamity. Dark rituals, traps, torture, bones and blood.

Evil Dead, all the way. It’s October and I can’t get it out of my head.

Area 2: coastal area, primitive utopia set up by religious fanatics seeking refuse from the chaos that the world has become. encounters could include snakes, crabs, harpies, mutant humanoids, plantoids.

Dungeon 2: a submerged tower. The ruins of a great city are now submerged. One large building holds vast treasures of the technological past, but they won’t last long with floors flooding, monsters infesting and a fanatic local population that considers the site as an example of what the sins of the past lead to.

a cross of planet of the apes and Atlantis mythos.

Hi, I would love to see a desert environment in the game. I think a desert-like setting always adds something special to rpgs, because it is so unique and different in its atmosphere and flavor.

My second choice would be the tropical island idea, that sounds like fun as well. Thanks for inviting suggestions, I had to register when I saw this.
