adoomgod, ASYLUM101, Ceno, Elfe and jiaco have combined their efforts to bring to you the Grimarillion Project (short form the “Grimar” mod). This mod is a Union of Cornucopia, Grim Quest, Zenith, Grimmest and Autopickup (formerly know as the “People are Lazy” mod).
The development of the project has been a collaboration of the various modders in order to bring you a compilation mod that preserves each individual mod as much as technically possible. Bug reports and feedback for each mod should be reported in the original mod’s thread. Since all of the modders are all a part of the Grimarillion Project, we will sort out if the problem lies in the original mod or is a result of the merge.
As any individual mod gets updated, we will release a new version of Grimarillion post-haste (aka bug testing) with the updates integrated.
Each current mastery has been assigned an immutable slot in the database so that starting now, your save data should remain stable (forwards compatible) with each future release.
If you see Depravities streaming today, he is playtesting a pre-release version of the mod that is 99% ready for public consumption. There are a few cosmetic issues to iron out and we just need to make sure there are no major bugs that make us liars about the point regarding forwards compatibility.
For those people that think this post is report worthy, you are absolutely correct, but for the wrong reason.
Depravities is a rare bird. Immune to my typical moderation activities because of the sick pleasure I get watching his stream. Maybe when the steam is over and I have a list of bugs to fix, I will delete his post. But for now, let it serve as a warning. This is not your typical twitch channel.
This looks like it’s going to be a really good mod. Would it be possible to import characters from any of the other unified mods into this one to save having to level them all again?
If the changes made to merge these make it back into their respective mods (eg the IDs assigned to their masteries) it should be doable in theory for chars that started after that point in time.
Any char started before that most likely would get messed up. What could work were to move the current char to a different dir, create a new char by the same name, copy everything but player.gdc over from the old char and edit the new char with an editor (GD Stash, Defiler) to get the right XP, level, iron, attribute and skill points, faction reputation… Items would be transferred via shared stash or tool (soulbound).
Zenith is being made so as to work 1:1 with this mod, so that you can move characters using only Zenith masteries (Champion, Elementalist, Terror Knight, Outrider, and the unreleased Necrotic and Riftstalker) back and forth between the mods.
Presumably some of these mods are going to implement equipment (epics, legendaries, new item types entirely, even mastery-specific affixes) - I think one of them already does - is the plan to just let this bloat the loot pool, making it less likely to find any one specific item?
Like Warden only drops certain epics/legendaries and those items only drop from him, such that if you want/need them for your build you can have a targeted run?
I would be all for that honestly, I think a lot of people would be interested in a system like that.
The other thing you can do is to improve crafting. Add recipes that give random items like now but a bit more targeted (I think this would only really work for epics/legendaries). Mostly referring to the crafting Etram Fald is able to do, but instead of just a random “Legendary Weapon” being able to do a random “Legendary Sword” or “Legendary Boots” etc. I think stuff like double rare affix MIs are SOL though.
It is just something that I’ve thought about while playing DAIL, and then again when I was thinking about making a mastery.
Bad power creep solution: edit existing items/affixes to grant bonuses to a second mastery/skill. (i.e. +1 Soldier becomes +1 Soldier and Terror Knight, +1 Cadence becomes +1 Cadence and +1 Banish). This doesn’t solve the problem but could slow things down a lot in the short-term. But it opens a new can of worms and would probably take a mountain of work.
“I doubt it is even possible” power creep solution: let a crafter change bonus skills on an item.
I guess the idea with both of these, though, is that the current items become applicable to the new masteries. And newly added items are good for vanilla masteries. Generally there’d be less need to add new items.
Quick thoughts on Ceno’s solution that specific bosses might a) make it too easy to get that one item you want and b) make it so that class A only ever farms area B - that some areas just become pointless. However, I quite like targeted farming in ARPGs, I don’t find it boring, I find it soothing
Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, just spitting out thoughts! Clearly I’m going to lose a few days of my life to this mod the moment I can download it!
Edit: as far as epics/legendaries go. You could just slowly increase the drop-rate to match the bloatedness of the pool. Everyone likes seeing more purple!
