Temporary houses

I propose to add the “assignment” function for miners to their temporary dwellings (so that only THEY can live there). It’s just that I just ran into this situation: I put up a mine, put 1 temporary house nearby for 4 miners, winter came, the miners went to their distant homes, but other workers (who are not so far away from their homes) occupied this temporary house.
I also suggest expanding the slots of the temporary house to 6.

I have that sort of situation, too. If the temporary houses are there for the workers most near them to keep stocked so they don’t go haring off to their faraway homes, wasting valuable time they could be providing food for the starving village, then there should be some way to insure that the workers for whom it was built would be the ones to occupy it! I don’t think we need six slots, though. I’ve built temporary homes in past games that never got occupied at all, by workers near or far. That wastes materials.

More than just mines… I’ve run into situations where I set up housing/markets/other essentials in areas a little further away from the town center (as I’ve explored/expanded the map). In these instances, without the ability to suggest that the people at the labor camp live in the settlement closest to the labor camp (as opposed to clear on the other side of the map), it would dramatically cut down on the travel time.

Either having the AI attempt to locate people into the closest housing to their work, or give me the ability to make housing assignments would be a huge improvement.

Hello, Miki_Ishikawa,

Welcome! Yes, I’ve built temporary shelters for my fisherfolk, hunters, and foragers and had these buildings go completely unoccupied! I’ve also had them occupied by workers from far sections of the map. Doesn’t make sense. If the advantage to building temporary shelters is for your workers to have the advantage of a “home away from home” near their workplace so they don’t always have to go home for supplies, then those are the villagers the AI should be putting there!

Can we just request a complete rewrite on the seasonal / temp house. Not only does it not function well in its intended purpose it also is something i have actively removed from saved games because of the net negative it is on food supply and its increase on food spoilage. To be honest, the entire “living situation” needs a rewrite… this is easily a top #5 issue with game play at the moment.

I have a problem that when I place a ‘temporary house’ next to distant mines, (or hunter lodges etc), the miners do not use the house and walk many miles to get to their homes… The ‘temporary house’ stays empty, no one lives there at all even temporarily (I have checked).

This has happened numerous times on different maps, and I don’t see the point of the ‘temporary dwelling’ if no one uses it… or in your case, the people that the house is intended for won’t use it.

Hopefully there will be a fix for this in the near future… like being able to allocate who can use the ‘temp dwelling’.

Temporary shelters are only used if there’s bad weather and villagers can’t get back to their homes, they’re not meant to be lived in temporarily.

I would change the temporary house to a smaller bunker that shelters 6 to 8 from the storm. They seem to work well for me where they are clustered at an intersection with a well nearby and create the effect of a little sub-village.

I understand, and I know you have to answer this question / comment on this forum often. I’m suggesting their intended use be expanded or changed. Then maybe you won’t have to comment on it anymore. Wouldn’t that be great!

Probably solved by renamig them “Bad Weather Shelters”
