Hello, Im new to the game, got ~150 hours in already though.
So, my first toon was a tanker with a shield, so he could stay almost everywhere without risk of getting killed, but my mates stopped playing, I had no way of getting items and farming, so I went another road.
Skipping 2nd char cuz experience was too short and insignificant, 3rd one I took was jajaja’s “Saboteur dual-weilder brimstone-lightning”, awesome build, very tanky, 40-50k+DPS, can go almost everywhere, so far almost every Leg\Epic Ive got - thanks to jajaja’s Saboteur.
Now im thinking about another toon, so question is, can I make some mage or some ranger-type thing with almost no defence but really nice and big damage? Lets say, 150k+? Will it be playable solo?
Are there any other options?
I don’t think 150k dps is attainable (be sure to post if you manage to reach it).
I think the highest DPS, at least on char screen, is achieved trough Aether Ray and cast speed + aether dmg stacking.
However, chart DPS is often misleading.
For example, I have a dual guns sorcerer that easily gets 55k DPS, but he farms much more slowly than my blademaster who has around 25k.
There are things that speed up your killing/farming significantly, but don’t show up on the char screen:
Resistance reduction. This is the big one. Monsters on ultimate usually have at least 70-80% resistance to anything you use, with some have 100+% to certain dmg types (ghosts vs bleeding for example). Having only 35% reliable res reduction to your main dmg type will effectively double your damage output. This is the reason that a blademaster with Night’s chill and Assassin’s blade, which are both always active on every enemy you fight, farms much faster than Aether Ray battlemage/druid/sorc which does 3x more DPS on paper.
Mobility. Having 135% move speed and a fast refreshing blink lets you skip a lot of mobs that don’t drop anything. This is why you need a Riftstone on a Calidor’s build.
Defense. You can be squishier with a ranged build, but if you spend 50% of your fight backing off, you do effectively 50% less damage. Does not apply to summoner types, obviously. Being able to ignore everything, jump and kill a boss in the middle of a mob, pick up an item and move on definitely increases your farming speed.
Area of effect. Killing everything at once is much faster than killing monsters one at a time.
Procs. Things like Agrivix’s malice and Eye of the guardian don’t show up on the chart, but they contribute massively to your damage output. Low cool down is preferable to high damage to avoid overkill.
With all of this in mind, there are two answers:
a) If you just want a screenshot of a char sheet that displays stupidly high about of damage, go for Aether Ray battlemage. Don’t forget to turn off the sphere and have Fighting spirit + Arcane will active when you take the screenshot.
b) For a ranged caster that kills everything in the room almost instantly and does Bastion or Nemesis runs in 5 min, play something like Dreeg’s witch hunter or Phantom blades spell breaker or Panetti’s battlemage/sorcerer (don’t know how much the nerf to Agrivix affected those builds though).
If you just want a screenshot of a char sheet that displays stupidly high about of damage
NO, most of procs\AoE isnt displayed in DPS for obv reasons, so I just want to make a toon that melts everyone, so mobs\star mobs cant even come close. That doesnt include huge bosses or nemesis, because they’ve got huge amounts of HP.
but if you spend 50% of your fight backing off, you do effectively 50% less damage.
Well I understand that, but thats not a big problem. Main thing is this toon have to be playable)) Time spent and death count is another thing. Lots of bosses use rush and blinks and stuff like that, so kiting wont help much on them, u either fight effectively or die.
