When I build a custom map the minimap in game looks very flat. The main compain map has the areas you can go clearly outlined with the areas you cannot go much darker than those you can. I get none of this with what the map editor generates. Am I missing something?
The minimap .tga files were post edited in Photoshop for the main game.
If you look in the Grim Dawn installation directory you will find a Photoshop actions script: minimap.atn
A short tutorial on installing and using an ATN file for Photoshop can be found here:
Some aspects were most likely edited by hand however.
For the use of the script I’m afraid so. ATN files are native to Photoshop.
The same functions can be performed with other programs like Gimp.
Its basically selecting a threshold for darkening map objects and outlining them using layers. The minimap.tga files also turns to have a more darker contrast.
Thank you, SolemnXII, for the infos!
I thought there was something wrong with the editor->build->Rebuild Selected Map function,
but what you said make sense
It’s a little difficult to recrate it using other tools if I don’t know exactly what it does.
Looking at it I can see it does a copy to layer and then a 0.5 pixel high pass filter. But after that I get lost.
I do know it uses the colour 159.0,149.7,133.4. And the pattern “Parchment” with the id of “e543b594-d35b-11e1-acd3-b1232b2d6c23”
what I don’t even know what that looks like. And I do know that it uses noisy drop shadow but the parameters on that don’t seem to make any sense.
